Laura Marie Domina's Obituary
Laura Marie Domina was born in Newcastle, Wyoming on June 10, 1985. She was welcomed to the world by her parents Lee Wayne Domina and Rebecca Evelyn (Moore) Domina, and her brother Joseph. Laura and Joe grew up in Wyoming, where they were raised around family on both sides.
She was a beautiful person who always thought of others first. Her priority was that those around her felt happy and loved. Sensitive, forgiving, compassionate and loyal. She was quick with a hug or an "I Love You!" Laura put deep thought into making people feel important, and she made friends wherever she went. Her giggle was infectious!
While living in Wyoming, She was briefly married to James Wisman. In July 2012, ready for a fresh start, she packed up her whole life and relocated to Utah. She was welcomed with open arms by her cousins; Carma, Teresa, Michele, Mistie, and her Aunt Kathleen.
In November 2012, Laura was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and loved attending the Temple whenever she was able. She earned her high school diploma from the Adult Education Program in Price, UT in 2014 and spoke at her graduation ceremony. She delivered a meaningful and heartfelt speech. However, all that could be seen of her standing at the podium, in spite of her 4 inch heels, was her graduation cap!
Eventually, she was drawn in by the excitement and opportunities to be found in the city. She moved to Utah County where she lived for the remainder of her life. Laura didn't have any children of her own, but developed special relationships with the children of her cousins and friends. She took any given opportunity to hold a baby. Birthdays, baptisms, graduations, and weddings, she was there at nearly every one of their life events. Always the right hand girl, working in the background to tie up loose ends, she played a substantial part in the success of any occasion. A collector of toys and all things soft and comfy, she was quick to pull out her Legos, dolls, or stuffies and get on the ground to play with "her kids."
Laura was sentimental and patriotic, with great reverence for all things USA! She enjoyed any family party, holiday, celebration, or concert where she could show off her creative style, often dressing up in costume. She loved fun and flashy makeup and it was never a surprise to see her arrive in rhinestones and butterflies! At 4' 8", Laura was small in stature, but big in personality and heart. She pretended to be offended by the short jokes, but proudly wore shirts with sentiments like, "I'm not short, I'm fun-sized!"
Laura was artistically inclined. In her thoughtful manner, she created pictures and cards for her friends and family. She would spend weeks on special projects for people she loved. She was gifted in the art of crochet. Her friends and acquaintances were the recipients of unique animals that she lovingly crafted from her recliner while watching true crime stories, cartoons, and sitcoms. She enjoyed painting and drawing, particularly animals. She had a great love for all types of animals, especially her many dogs and cats throughout her life.
Laura was a dependable worker who was quickly promoted to management wherever she landed. One job in particular caught her eye. She would've worked there forever if she could, but she closed out Toys R' Us with a bang! She created special awards for all of her employees, to be handed out on the day they closed the company. Eventually, she settled into a job at Target. For the past few years, she was a manager at the Holiday Oil near her home. Her coworkers and customers looked forward to seeing her happy face each day.
She worked hard so she could play hard. Laura loved travel and adventure, and enjoyed many trips to various places including the historic Church sites in Missouri and Nauvoo, trips to Vegas, Moab, and Colorado, a Caribbean Cruise, and most recently to the California Coast.
She survived many physical and emotional hardships, but you would never guess because she didn't complain. At age 39, Laura passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on the morning of February 12, 2025 in her home in Orem, Utah with her friends and roommates, Tasha and Christine at her side. To say that we are all deeply saddened by this loss is an understatement. We will love her and miss her for the rest of our lives.
She was preceded in death by her dad, Lee; her beloved grandmother, Marie Gladys Domina; and several other close family members. She is survived by her mother Becky (Shawn) Surace and her big brother and hero, Joseph Wayne (Briett Lee Wood) Domina. As well as many cousins, aunts, and uncles who will remember her fondly.
