Laverne Raeford Burns' Obituary
Laverne Raeford Burns, 78, passed away March 6, 2026, in Murray, Utah. He was born in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, to Lulabelle Burns and Raeford Burns. LaVerne was raised by his mother alongside his sister, Ruth McCloy; and later counted his step father, Donald York, among his greatest heroes.
He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 47 years, Debra Burns, and his sons Ryan (Kate), Rusty, and Ben (Karen), along with his cherished grandchildren Teeahna, Tahlia, Tyrone Ngouamo, Keagan Siedman, and Jayde Freidman, as well as many other extended family members and friends.
For nearly 50 years, Laverne crafted orthodontic retainers, quietly contributing to countless smiles. In his youth he loved wrestling and football, and later devoted himself wholeheartedly to being a father and coach. He made it his mission to never miss a single event in his children’s lives — from games to performances — becoming known by all as the dad who always showed up. Dad was always there.
Nicknamed “Angry Bear,” Laverne’s rugged exterior hid a deeply gentle heart. He was known for his humor, teasing spirit, heartfelt prayers, and unwavering love for his family.
Viewing will be at 11:00 a.m., followed by funeral services at 12:00 p.m. Later at 4:00 p.m., family and friends are invited to share memories at his son Ryan’s home in the Saddle Oaks area of West Jordan.
“Well done, thou good and faithful servant… enter thou into the joy of thy lord.” — Matthew 25:23
