Layne "Todd" Olsen's Obituary
Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Layne “Todd” Olsen, age 72, passed away on April 2, 2026, at his home in St. George after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by loving family members and angels standing by to welcome him home. Todd was born on December 27, 1953, in Renton, Washington, to Chester Olsen and Mary Mykytiuk. He later moved with his family to Granger, Utah, where he attended school and graduated from Granger High School in 1972. In 1975, Todd married Marilyn O’Leary; the marriage later ended in divorce. Their union was blessed with four beautiful children. Todd was a dedicated and hardworking man throughout his life. He spent 15 years with Smith Food King, where he rose to the position of assistant manager. He later worked as a paint supervisor for Mack Truck. At the age of 39, Todd chose a new and meaningful path, pursuing his deep desire to serve others. He graduated with honors from Utah Valley College with an Associate Degree in Nursing and went on to serve as a compassionate and devoted nurse until his retirement in 2019. Todd had a lifelong passion for cars. Over the years, he proudly owned 21 AMX cars and 19 Chevrolet Corvettes—a hobby that brought him great joy. He was also blessed with a remarkable talent for working with burl wood, creating unique and beautiful pieces of furniture. On June 25, 1987, Todd married Kim Black, the love of his life. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple, sealing them together for eternity. Their blended family began with eight children between the ages of three and fifteen living under the same roof. Two years later, they welcomed their “ours” baby, Nigel Kenton Olsen. Todd and Kim lived and raised their family for 20 years in Orem, Utah. Later moving to Salem, Pleasant Grove and finally to St. George, Utah. Todd and Kim faithfully served a two-year senior service mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 2022 at the American Fork Employment Center. Todd often said it was truly the most blessed two years of his life. Todd is survived by his beloved wife, of 39 years, Kim B Olsen, his children: Jeremy (Monica) Hampton, Stacy (Mike) Hansen, Meghan (Kelly) Burdick, Layne (Brittany) Olsen, Sarah Anthony, Coy (Corey) Bush, Chanelle (Bobby) Lagay, and Quinn (Luciana) Hess; his brothers, Cory and Chris Olsen; 21 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren and of course his beloved dogs. Harley, JoJo and Oreo. He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, LCpl Nigel Olsen and Nathan Hess; and his brother, Don Olsen. Funeral services will be held at the Salem West Stake Center, 695 South 330 West, Salem, Utah, on Friday, April 10 at 12:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to attend a viewing on Thursday evening from 6:00–8:00 p.m at the same location, and again on Friday beginning at 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will take place at the Salem City Cemetery.
