Your Dad was one of the kindest, funnest, happy uncles a kid could have. I loved visiting your home, and I loved your visits to us. Staying with you when Marie had surgery at Primary Childrens. Your dad always made a point of checking on me to make sure I wasnt lonely. I loved the family camping trips. He and Alta were so fun to talk to and listen to. He lived such a wonderful life. I will always be grateful for him and for your family.
I am the youngest of the Smith children that lived next door to Leonard and Alta. It was so fun growing up next door! I often remember going over to their house to see the garden or to visit and play with missy. I was always amazed by the gigantic sunflowers and pumpkins that Leonard would grow. As I recall, his secret was using fish in the soil. That's something i've never forgotten. Leonard truly felt like family. I will always remember his kind smile and hearty laugh. I wish your family peace in this time and my family and I send our love.

We are sharing in your sadness as you celebrate your father's wonderful and long life and we are wishing you peace and comfort in the days ahead. Leonard was a wonderful, genuine person and neighbor, always caring more for his neighbors than himself. He made himself available to lend a hand or take part as needed in any way. Many times I would find Leonard sitting with my parents (Dennis and Gerry) in the back yard talking, and swapping stories, laughing long and hard at times. As a child I remember the large heads of cabbage that he grew, the even bigger pumpkins and the year that he found Alta's lost ring while plowing the garden for the next crop. That was a moment he relayed with a very big grin on his face. I will miss his good nature, his wonderful kind smile, jovial laugh and most of all, his kindness that lasted his life time. It has been a joy to know him and your family for a very long time and he will be missed greatly by the Schmidt family.

We loved Leonard! He was just a wonderfully comfortable person. One of our best memories is when he and Alta came to visit us for a few days in Colorado. That was just shortly before Alta got sick. Every day we went somewhere interesting like Red Rocks, Garden of the Gods, or the Air Force Academy. Each evening we would watch a fun movie. We also made it a point to go visit him when we visited Salt Lake after Alta passed. Leonard was always Leonard. True to himself, his Heavenly Father, and his family.
