Leslie Schmiett Smith's Obituary
Leslie Schmiett Smith, 78, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2025, in the comfort of her favorite place—her home in Cottonwood Heights, Utah.
Born on May 22, 1947, in Roosevelt, Utah, Leslie was the daughter of Bennie and Evelyn Schmiett. She dedicated her life to caring for her family and was the heart of every gathering. Her greatest joy was being a mother and Mammie, always showing up with love, laughter, and support. Leslie rarely missed a game, lunch date, or party involving her children or grandchildren—she was their biggest fan and fiercest protector.
She is survived by her loving daughters: Brandy Hoopiiaina (Dustin), Ashley Howell (Jonah), and Shannon Toler (David); her cherished grandchildren, Marley and Braxtin Hoopiiaina; and her dear sister, Linda Allen (Terry). She was preceded in death by her beloved partner, Donald C. Smith, her sister Wendy Mickel, and her brother Jim Schmiett.
Leslie found beauty in the simple things. She adored her home, took pride in her yard and plants, and had a soft spot for game shows and the Utah Jazz. Her presence brought warmth and comfort, and her absence leaves a deep void.
A Celebration of Life open house from 4pm-8pm will be held in her honor on August 24, 2025, at her daughter Ashley’s home. Family and friends are invited to stop by, share memories, and celebrate the incredible life of a woman who gave so much love to those around her.
Special thank you to Suncrest Hospice and the amazing care they provided to our Mammie.
