Linda Cooper's Obituary
Linda Cooper, 80, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2025, after five years of compassionate dementia care at Covington Assisted Living in Orem, Utah.
Born on November 18, 1944 in Pittsburg, California, Linda spent her childhood in Union, Oregon.
She graduated from Union High School and continued her education at LDS Business College in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Since childhood she was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and nurtured a deep faith in Christ throughout the rest of her life.
She served faithfully for 18 months in the Toronto Canada Mission and cherished the people she met and served during that time.
She worked 6 years for Dr. Burt Frewing as his assistant and office manager. This was one of her favorite jobs and she learned many valuable skills that she treasured.
She also worked as a housekeeper, errand runner and confident for Clarence Kemp for 10 years. They enjoyed a lasting friendship that took them on many long scenic drives throughout Utah. They also watched his collection of old movies together.
Linda worked at Snowbird Ski Resort in Park , Utah for 13 years as a housekeeper and received an honor pin and dinner after only 10 years. During her employment at Snowbird she thoroughly enjoyed meeting the vast variety of people who stayed at the Resort.
Linda found joy in reading mysteries and historical novels, as well as crocheting, knitting, and square dancing. She also loved playing church hymns on the piano and putting together puzzles. She had a gift for forming meaningful connections with others and delighted in playful banter and conversation.
Linda loved her family and being with them brought her safety and peace. When Dad passed in 1998 she lived with her mother in Utah, Verla Cooper, sharing adventures and taking care of each other till Mother passed in 2018.
She spent a year with her Aunt Idonna Cantrell in Oregon, then her cousins Rick and Cheryl Cantrell invited her to join them for several months. In 2020 she moved to Covington Living where she spent the remainder of her days under their phenomenal professional care.
We extend a special thanks to Canyon Hospice and Covington Memory Care for the tender compassion Linda received from their entire staff. Their kindness and attentive care over the last 5 years have been deeply appreciated by her family, but most especially by Linda herself. She loved each of them and was incredibly grateful for their friendships and everything they did for her, as well as all the wonderful friends she made during her stay.
She was married to Ronald E. Dorn from 1969 to 1987, married to James Ledberry from 1988 to 1993 and to Jim Topping from 1994 to 1998.
She is survived by her sisters, Susan Shaw and Jil Colwell, as well as her brothers, Bill Cooper and Ward Cooper. She was preceded in death by her father, William Hyrum Cooper; her mother, Verla Ward
Cooper; and her sister, Colleen Cooper and her brother-in-law Scott D Shaw.
Linda will be privately laid to rest at Union Cemetery in Union, Oregon, beside her parents and sister Colleen.
May her faith and memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
