Linda "Lin" Arleen Peterson's Obituary
Linda “Lin” Arleen Peterson, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, returned home peacefully on July 20, 2026 at the age of 77 in Saratoga Springs, UT.
Lin was born April 12, 1949, in Boise, Idaho, at St. Alphonsus Hospital to Richard A. Sword and Barbara Jean Snider Sword. She spent her early years in Boise, where she attended Garfield Elementary, East Junior High, and graduated from Borah High School. During her high school years, she also served as Honored Queen of Bethel No. 13. She later attended Boise State University.
On May 18, 1968, she married her sweetheart, Danny K. Peterson, at Christ’s Chapel on Boise State University’s campus. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple on May 17, 1980. Together, they raised two sons, Jay D and Brian K Peterson, who were the center of her world.
Lin was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving faithfully in many ward and stake callings including Den Mother, Stake Young Women’s President, Stake Girls Camp Leader, and Early Morning Seminary Teacher. She and Dan served as senior missionaries at the Salt Lake City Church Office Building Historical and Recreational Sites (2010–2012) and later in the Utah Provo/Orem Mission (2014–2015). She also served joyfully as an ordinance worker in the Mt. Timpanogos Utah Temple.
Throughout her life, Lin was known for her love of adventure and family traditions. She enjoyed bowling, camping, gardening, snow and water skiing, riding motorcycles and UTVs, and cheering on Boise State University football. Nothing brought her more joy than attending her sons’ and grandchildren’s activities—whether soccer, tennis, wrestling, football, baseball, or dance. She lovingly quilted a special blanket for each grandchild, creating heirlooms that will be treasured for generations.
Lin was a longtime member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, proudly tracing her ancestry to Michael Sword of Virginia.
Lin loved to travel, with fond memories of visiting LDS historical sites, annual ski trips, monthly ATV adventures, cruises to the Caribbean, Alaska and Europe, and especially her frequent visits to Hawaii. Summers at the TJ cabin in McCall, Idaho, were always a highlight filled with laughter and love.
Lin is survived by her beloved husband, Dan; her sons, Jay Peterson (Tanya) and Brian Peterson (Justyn); grandchildren, Jeremy, Nicole Purkey (Trevon), Ryan, Bryce (Samanta), Colby, Cameron, Quincy, and Sydney; great grandchild, Whitney; siblings, Scott Sword, Martin Sword, and Susan Paduano (Paul), and many extended family members and friends who loved her dearly.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Barbara Sword.
Funeral services will be held August 15, 2026 at 11:00 am Jacob’s Ranch Chapel, 267 West Weatherby Drive, Saratoga Springs, Utah. A viewing will take place August 15, 2026 at 9:30 am. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery.
Lin lived a life of faith, love, and service. Her family and friends will remember her warm smile, adventurous spirit, and the countless memories she created with those she loved.
