Loana Fern Barrowes Anderson
August 13, 1937 – May 28, 2025
Loana Fern Barrowes Anderson was born in Fairview, Wyoming in a log cabin built by her father. Loana was the first of 8 children. She attended 1st grade in Topaz, Utah, at the Japanese relocation camp in 1943, where her father taught 7th grade. She graduated from Granite High School in 1955. She graduated from the University of Utah in 1959 with a degree in education, and a minor in art. She married her high school sweetheart Franklin K. Anderson, November 21, 1958, in the Salt Lake Temple. They were married 66.5 years. Franklin was drafted into the US Army 5 days after their marriage. They were stationed at Fort Monmouth, N.J. In the Signal Corp.
In 1965 they adopted their daughter Zan L. Anderson-Thomas. In 1967 they adopted their son Michael L. Anderson.
Loana taught kindergarten and 2nd grade for 7 years.
In 1977 She moved with her family to Bennion, Utah. In 1991 She moved with her husband to Idaho Falls, which is still the family’s home.
Loana passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 28th, 2025. She is survived by her husband Franklin K. Anderson, Children Zan L. Thomas and Michael L. Anderson, her Grandchildren Jazmine L Thomas, Tanner A. Anderson, Airy A. Anderson and Sienna B. Anderson. Her siblings Ila Maevonne Whitaker, Kendall Barrowes, Lowell Barrowes, Reeba Barrows, and Eldon Barrowes.
She was preceded in death by her parents Thayer Clark Barrowes and Fern Isabella Rees Barrowes, 2 brothers Orlando Barrowes, and Steven Barrowes and her Grandson Jeremy D. Thomas.
Loana's funeral service will be held on June 5th, 2025 at the LDS chapel on 981 East Revere Circle Murray, UT. 84117. The viewing will be at noon and the funeral will be at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be at Elysian Burial Gardens, 1075 East 4580 South, SLC Utah 84117.
