Lois Marlene Patten's Obituary
Lois Marlene Patten passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family and loved ones in Draper, Utah on April 8, 2024.
Lois was born May 19, 1936 to Jeff and Merlynn Olsen. Her older sister LaDeane Tingey was her best friend. The family spent much of the childhood years moving frequently and eventually settled in Provo, Utah and made a home there. She graduated from Provo High school in 1954. She was what you called a “good dancer” during high school, as dancing was the big thing to do at that time. She spoke often about wearing her circle skirt, cinched belt, Jantzen sweater and matching socks and heading to Salt Lake with friends to dance in what they called the “Salt Lake Drag.”
She attended Brigham Young University for a brief time and soon after met and married Gary Nicholes and would become mom to seven children. Raising children and being a mom was everything to her and she did it with her whole heart. Her sacrifice and love for her family continued until her passing and will still be felt from beyond the veil.
Lois was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and had a strong testimony of her Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. She held many calling in her years and did so diligently. Lois was blessed with the ability to easily and closely connect with people and a sincere desire to help others. That gift blessed many in her life in different capacities. In 1992 she became an Addiction and Recovery counselor with Highland Ridge Hospital. She shared love and compassion to those in need and continued that for over 15+ years.
She met and later married her sweetheart and eternal companion John Patten in May 2006. They were later sealed in the Jordan River Temple in August of 2007. She was blessed to have traveled the world with John as well as serve a full-time mission to the Marshall Islands. Together they created loving and lasting memories. They absolutely adored each other, and she had greatly missed him after his passing in 2022. There is comfort in knowing she is in his loving embrace again.
Lois leaves behind her seven children, Carrie (Mike) Smith, Brad (Susan) Nicholes, Mike (Michelle) Nicholes, David (Heidi) Nicholes, Dana (Brian) Clements, Ryan (Janae) Nicholes and Brooke (Travis) Hatch. Through them she was blessed with 34 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren. Lois was also fortunate to gain two stepsons David (Michelle) Patten, Jeff (Janeen) Patten and their families in which she loved.
The family would like to give sincere thanks to Beacon Crest Senior Living’s staff and residents as well as Inspiration Home Health and Hospice for their love, compassion, friendship, and care that she received.
No viewing will be held. The funeral Services will be Monday April 15, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 3408 Celeste Way, Salt Lake City, Utah. An interment will be held directly after at Wasatch Lawn Memorial at 3401 S. Highland Drive, Millcreek, Utah.
