Lon Arnold Hansen's Obituary
Lon Arnold Hansen 90, Roy UT, passed away peacefully with family and a friend by his side. He was born on May 13th, 1931 and passed away on April 21st, 2022. Lon Graduated from Bear River High School. Lon also went to Weber State College to get his machine/tool engineering degree. Lon grew up on his family farm in Tremonton. He worked for his father and grandfather. He invented many tools to help him work smarter not harder where he made a sugar beet beater, a cultivator, hydraulic dump rack and a bale stacker. He then went to San Diego, CA where he worked on ships for a brief time then came back to Utah because of family health problems.
Lon joined the Air Force in 1951 and served in the military for more than 20 years. While enlisted in the Air Force he married Daphne Hilda Bassett (while stationed in England) and they had three children in UT. They later divorced. While in the Military service Lon went to basic training, aircraft training, was a tail gunner and boom operation in B29/ KB29 aircraft. He earned his wings in the latter two. He then transitioned to KB97s KB aircraft are the Inflight refueling type aircraft that were originally Bomber aircraft. Lon also was in the Navy reserves and the Airforce reserves. Lon had a couple deployments. The first was Guam in 1951 and then England in 1953. Lon retired from HAFB civil service while serving as an Air Force Reservist for the 419th TFW machine shop. While serving in the US Airforce he received an outstanding airman reward.
Lon worked at HAFB as a civilian machinist while raising his family on 33 acres, with a pond and many animals. He also ran his own machine shop as well at his residence in Roy. He had many rentals, mostly in Ogden which he would maintain and fix up himself. He had property from Kanab to Harrisville. He built his own home, horse stables and a set of duplexes. He also worked on the reconstruction of the 24th street viaduct. He loved working with the heavy equipment like dozers and cranes.
Lon also owned a bar on 25th street in Ogden along with is son Todd. They worked the bar side by side. Lon and Todd had many stories over the years about the bar and things that would happen inside and around it. They would tell stories about the underground tunnels and the things that went on down there. Lon would also tell stories about the military and being the refueler for the planes.
Lon was also a family man. He loved taking many adventurous road trips. He owned property at Sourdough Wilderness Ranch. While being there he loved camping, snowmobiling, fishing, watching the moose and other wildlife animals. Throughout his life his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren would get on his back while being on all fours and he would try to buck them off. They would call him the “Bronco Bull”.
He was preceded in death by his father Arnold Rasmus Hansen, mother LeOra Blanche Hansen, his 4 sisters Vaudys Jennings, Jacqueline Kuepper, Uarda Elwood and Mary Hansen, along with his son Todd Hansen.
Lon’s survivors include his Brother Ted Hansen (Jan) of Tremonton, UT, son Derek Hansen of CA, daughter Christina (Chris) Hansen of Roy, UT, 2 grandsons Derek Layton (Sandi) ID, and Kerry Layton (Rachel) of Syracuse, UT. And 10 great grandchildren, 2 special friends Claude Armstrong (Patti) and Bob Dare (Linden) and his Furry Buddy Yontz.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, please take your loved ones out for Ice Cream and go to a Nature Center and let them know that you love them. A celebration of life ceremony will be at 10:00 AM Tuesday, May 31st at Bear River Cemetery.
