Loreen Holland Holmes' Obituary
Loreen Holland Holmes, born December 12, 1934, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Glen W. Holland and Virginia D. Holland, passed away on October 8, 2024, surrounded by her loving daughters and family.
Loreen married Robert J. Holmes in the Salt Lake Temple on April 8, 1955, and together they created a beautiful family. She was the proud mother of three daughters: Rhonda L. Shumway, Shelli A. Holmes, and Lynette H. Muir (Scott W. Muir). Loreen's legacy continues through her grandchildren—Dusty Shumway (Jamie Sullivan Shumway), Tyler Shumway, Lexie Muir, Karli Muir Hull (Brandon Hull), and Garrett S. Muir—and her three great-grandchildren, Bryan Shumway (10), Ruby Shumway (6), and Owen Hull (2). She is predeceased by her son-in-law, D. Brian Shumway, grandson, Cody Shumway and her sister Verla Swords. Loreen is also survived by her sister, Carolyn Peel (deceased: Don Peel), and brother Douglas Holland (Brenda), along with many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Loreen served in various leadership roles, including Relief Society President and Young Women President. She cherished her family and enjoyed traveling, playing tennis, and attending opera and Broadway shows. Some of her happiest moments were spent on Hawaiian beaches with family. Together with Bob, she traveled extensively, visiting places like Europe, Japan, China, and Thailand, and they enjoyed ocean cruising.
Loreen was also engaged in local Republican Party politics, contributing her time and resources for over four decades. In 1965, the family relocated to Southern California when Bob accepted a position with a large financial institution. There, Loreen developed a passion for tennis, earning the nickname "Tennis Queen Loreen".
A graveside service will be held at Elysian Burial Gardens, 1075 East 4580 South, on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at 10:30 AM. Following the service, a luncheon will be held for family and close friends at the South Mountain Stake Center, 1911 E. Gray Fox Dr, Draper, UT 84020.
Loreen will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family, her dedication to her faith, and her vibrant spirit.
