Lorry LaVern Horman's Obituary
Lorry Horman
1925-2017
The Tomato King is dead! Long live the tomato! Lorry Horman was born June 30, 1925 to C.G. and Lucy Horman. He planned to be the last surviving WWII veteran. Though he didn’t make that goal, he consistently avoided death until January 12, 2017. It was inevitable. During the War he served in Air-Sea Rescue in the East Indies and the Philippines. From 1947-1949 he served a mission for the LDS Church in Australia. Lorry met Darlene Thomas at choir practice. He was smitten. He voted her the girl he would most like to pray with in the closet. They married November 16, 1950 in the Salt Lake LDS temple. Darlene passed away April 14, 2016. They had 4 children: Julie Larson (David), Gregory (Jane), Leslie, Michelle Davis (John); 13 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren.
Lorry was frequently called to serve the fatherless, widows and empty nesters and otherwise as a foot soldier in pursuit of the Covenant of Abraham. He tried several occupations: public administration, residential and commercial construction, real estate sales and finally found a niche in compound interest. He was a backyard dirt farmer specializing in tomato agriculture in the hope of reducing the incidence of tomato deprivation disorder.
Family and friends are invited to join us for a graveside service 12:00 Noon, Monday, January 16, 2017 at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 So Highland Dr., Salt Lake City, UT. After the service an open house will be held in Lorry’s home from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm.
