LOWELL FISHER WILSON
1933 -2016
Lowell Wilson returned to his beloved Father in Heaven February 6, 2016. He was devoted
to Him and to his students and his family, which consists of his wife of 57years, Marjorie Ann Smith,
his five children and their spouses: Elaine, Kenneth (Karman), Wendy (Tony) Spooner, Carrie (Brian)
Smith, Bonnie (Chad) Whitlock, 14 grandchildren, and three greatgrandchildren.He was born May 9, 1933 in Salt Lake City to William Hamilton Wilson and Estenna Ruth Fisher. He attendedSouth High, where he set state records in track; subsequently receiving a four-year trackscholarship to the University of Utah. Besides his college track achievements, he continued to win gold
medals in track at summer games. At the “U”, he was president of Beta Chapter, Lambda Delta Sigma
and president of Phi Mu, music fraternity. He was active in music all his life, from winning in piano at
State Fair competition to singing in quartets and school choirs, Salt Lake Symphonic Choir and Symphonic Chorus, as well as directing several college choirs at institutes of religion.He met his future wife at the ‘U’ Institute of Religion. They were married in the Salt LakeTemple June 6, 1958. Both graduated with a degree in elementary education and taught at BountifulElementary before accepting the opportunity to teach in the LDS Church School in Western Samoa forthree years.This experience cemented his desire to devote his life to teaching religion. Returning home, he taught seminary and institute classes the rest of his life. Hundreds of students received the benefit of his enthusiasm and knowledge.For over 40, years, he directed Church History tours. He was never happier than when teaching or sharing the Gospel.As a young man, he served an Eastern States Mission, which included performing in the Hill Cumorah Pageant for three years. He and his wife enjoyed serving as: guides on Temple Square for four years,Salt Lake Temple workers for 12 years, and missionaries to Cambodia and Leeds, England.He encouraged family members to develop their talents and was happiest when he could beincluded, such as acting in Community Theatre.We will missLowell’s enthusiasm, support, love of the Gospel and his groaner puns.Well done, thou good and faithful servant, husband, father, and grandfather. Lowell is survived by his wife Marjorie of 57 years, children: Kenneth (Karman), Wendy (Tony) Spooner, Carrie (Brian) Smith, Bonnie (Chad) Whitlock, Vietnamese daughter Hanh (Shane) Harrison, 14 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, William Hamilton Wilson and Estenna Ruth Fisher Wilson, his only sibling Hamilton Wilson, and daughter Elaine Wilson.
Funeral services 1:00 pm, Saturday, February 13, 2016 at the East Mill Creek State Center, 3103 East Craig Drive (3600 South), Salt Lake City, Utah with a viewing prior to services from 11:00 to 12:45 pm. Interment at the Elysian Burial Gardens.
We will miss Lowell’s optimism and joy of life, but are sure there are more smiles in Heaven since your arrival. “…And until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.”
