Luanne Barry Hancock's Obituary
Luanne Barry Hancock, 79, of Lindon, Utah, peacefully passed to the next life February 13, 2014. She was born on January 22, 1935 in Anniston, Alabama. She moved to Alexandria, Virginia and then Southern California in her early teenage years to help with her mother’s flower shops. She married Warren D. Hancock and they had one son, Barry Warren Hancock.
In addition to raising Barry, Luanne devoted her time to a variety of interests including residential and commercial real estate investing and management, selling designer clothes, running Quinn’s Irish Pub, volunteering her time with the John Tracy Clinic helping young children with hearing loss, and serving as President of the Tustin Garden Club. In an era when no other moms were coaching Little League, Luanne coached her team - that wasn’t even Barry’s - to the league championship. She developed an interest in antiques and continued her entrepreneurial interests in that area. She was active in politics supporting conservative Republican causes.
Luanne was instrumental with then husband Warren in the early development of the Hancock Heart Valve, the first biological artificial heart valve to see wide-spread commercial use. The rights to the valve were eventually purchased by Johnson & Johnson.
In her later years she spent most of the time in her rose garden, which, along with her home, was featured in several magazines and newspaper articles.
Ten years ago Luanne joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day saints. Recently she relocated to Utah to be close to her son Barry and his family. She is survived by Barry (Ann Michelle), grandsons Caden and Calvin, and step grandchildren Alex, Ben, Sophia, and Asher.
Luanne Hancock lead a life of helping others and giving others opportunity to enrich their own lives through hard work. In lieu of flowers, the Hancock Family requests donations be made to the Perpetual Education Fund http://www.ldsphilanthropies.org.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Saturday, February 15, 2014 at the Lindon 15th Ward Chapel, 1051 East 200 South, Lindon, Utah with a viewing 30 min prior to services at the church. Interment at the Lindon City Cemetery, 575 North 200 East, Lindon, UT.
