Lucille Barber Bawden's Obituary
Our caring Mother and Grandmother, Lucille Barber Bawden, passed away October 5, 2017. She was born to Melana and Herman Barber, Sr. on May 29, 1926, in Murray, Utah. She had eight older brothers and was the only girl in her family. Lucille married Dale John Bawden on February 20, 1947. His pet name for her was “Luke.” They were married over 30 years and later divorced.
Mom was very intelligent and strong willed and she could do almost anything. She was a very talented artist and loved drawing, sewing, and arts and crafts. She loved animals, especially cats and dogs. She strived to keep a clean house and loved gardening, cooking, baking, and canning. Her favorite flowers were irises, roses, peonies and hibiscus. She loved camping, hunting and fishing, and slept with a pistol under her pillow for many years. Her grandkids called her “Rambo Grandma.” She was able to go to Hawaii, Washington DC, Nauvoo, and on a cruise in the Caribbean in her later years. She held callings in the church as a Cub Scout Den Leader and was a Primary Teacher for many years. She retired from Litton Industries at age 68, then she served in the Jordan River Temple for over 11 years. She put her heart and soul into her job and her callings. She was very reliable and conscientious and tried to instill that in her children.
Lucille is survived by five of her children: Paul L. Bawden; Dee Jay (Deana) Bawden; Debby (John) Stevens; Shelley (Alvin) Crown; Brian (DeAnn) Bawden, 23 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; her eight brothers and sisters-in-law; Dale Bawden; son, Lon Bawden; Daughter-in-Law, JoAnn Bawden, and grandsons Joshua Bawden and Spencer Bawden. She will be deeply missed by both her immediate and her extended family.
