Lue Ann Stringham Hatch's Obituary
Lue Ann Stringham Hatch
November 29, 1922 - August 29, 2017
Lue Ann Hatch began her autobiography, “I was born the night before Thanksgiving, November 29, 1922 in Bountiful Utah. As soon as I was born, Daddy said to Moma ‘She’s a beautiful little girl, honey, and tomorrow’s Thanksgiving, and now I’ll be able to go to the football game.’” Who could have predicted that Lue Ann would become such a fan of football herself, a shared interest which would forge a close bond with her daddy. Lue Ann passed away peacefully on August 29, 2017 in Murray, Utah. She is the daughter of Walter Hoggan and Janet Hatch Stringham.
Lue Ann spent her childhood in southern California and attended Fairfax High School in Los Angeles. She then attended one year at the University of Southern California before transferring to the University of Utah. As mentioned before, she loved attending football games with her daddy and was an avid USC fan. Although never an athlete herself, she enjoyed many spectator sports throughout her life.
Lue Ann met her future husband and the “love of her life,” Dale Grover Hatch, at a Mutual harvest dance. They were married August 7, 1943 while Dale was on leave from the Navy on a 48-hour pass. They were later sealed in the Los Angeles Temple. After the war, Lue Ann and Dale lived in San Marino, California, while Dale attended the USC School of Pharmacy. Together they opened Friendly Hills Pharmacy in Whittier, California, in 1954. They settled in Whittier and raised their family there. Lue Ann was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and loved her service as the Relief Society President in the Santa Gertrudes Ward. Together Lue Ann and Dale enjoyed traveling the world and attending and hosting social dinner clubs. Lue Ann was a member of the Friendly Hills Women’s Club and participated in several bridge groups. She was an avid reader and a member of Belle Lettres.
Lue Ann and Dale provided loving care for her mother from the time of her daddy’s death. She took her role of big sister to her two younger sisters very seriously. She was an adoring grandmother to all five of her loving grandsons.
Lue Ann moved to Lehi, Utah seven years ago to live with her sister, Jane, and her brother-in-law. While living in Utah, she actively participated in the Daughters of Utah Pioneers.
Lue Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Dale (March 17, 1980) and her sister, Elizabeth Nilsen. She is survived by her sons, Randall Walter Hatch and Wendell Dale Hatch; daughters-in-law, Mary Ellen Grant Hatch and Julie Peeler Hatch; grandsons, Theodore Walter Hatch (Suzanne), Andrew Dale Hatch (Leigh), Bradford Grant Hatch, Christian David Hatch, and Chase Randall Hatch; great grandchildren, Benton Richard Hatch, Reed Walter Hatch, and Emme Jil Hatch; her sister, Jane Stringham O’Bryant (Theral), and many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 12 Noon, Monday, September 4, 2017 at the Lehi 33rd Ward Chapel, 650 East 3200 North, Lehi, UT with a viewing prior to services from 10:00 to 11:30 am. Interment will be 3:00 pm, Friday, September 8, 2017 at Rose Hills Memorial Park, Garden of Prayer (section 10) Whittier, CA.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Humanitarian Aid fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
