Lyda Carol Fuqua's Obituary
Lyda Carol Fuqua
1943 - 2020
In the company of her loved ones, on the afternoon of May 21, Our loving Mother, Wife, Grandmother, and Sister Lyda Carol returned home to her Heavenly Father.
Born April 12, 1943 in Hopkinsville, Kentucky she was raised on her family's farm in Crofton, Kentucky with her younger brother John. Her father was a farmer and groundskeeper, and her mother a schoolteacher. Spending her childhood in this rural forest setting surrounded by nature, she developed an affinity for all of God’s creatures. Animals always held a special place in her heart. Aside from family and loved ones nothing brought her more joy, or a beaming smile on her face faster, than the opportunity to pour out her affection on an animal that needed a loving home.
After graduating from Christian County High School, she attended Western Kentucky State College. From there she transferred to Murray State University where she earned her degree in Elementary Education. While attending college she had a roommate who was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was later introduced to church missionaries, and was baptized a member of the LDS faith not long after.
It was at a church meeting where she met Lincoln Fuqua, a recently returned missionary who’d also converted while attending university. They married in Kentucky in 1970, and with the closest temple nearly 2000 miles away were, only a few days later, sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple. They celebrated their 50th anniversary only a few short weeks before her passing.
Lifes journey took them across the country to multiple states that they called home for a time. Virginia where their oldest son James was born. They later moved to Florida. Then on to Dallas, Texas where their Daughter Heather was born. Next to Utah where their youngest son Raymond was born. Then back home to Kentucky for several years. After which they returned again to Utah, which they called home for the next 35 years.
After her children were all school aged, Lyda Carol worked as a nurses aid for 25 years. With her always compassionate and patient demeanor she developed the reputation as the most trusted and beloved of caregivers at the assisted living centers she worked for. Her gentle and naturally nurturing way was a gift that served well in her chosen profession.
Our family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the wonderful staff of both Legacy House assisted living center and Tender Care Hospice team members who lovingly served Lyda Carol with special care for several years.
Lyda Carol was preceded in death by her daughter Heather Dawn Fuqua. She is survived by her husband Lincoln D Fuqua; Her sons, James (Sara) Fuqua, and Ray (Jessica); and her brother John Goad (Sue). She has 8 Grandchildren: Cameron, Sterling, Tavia, Jayden, Valor, Merit, Jaxon, and Ruby.
