Mack Eugene Williams' Obituary
Mack Eugene Williams of Bluffdale, Utah, peacefully departed his earthly home on December 20, 2023. He was surrounded by his loved ones during his passing. He was born March 31, 1944, to Eddie Carl Williams and Mary Leone Butcher, in Salt Lake City, Utah. His father had constructed the very home in which he was born. Mack was the third child of four children and grew up in very humble circumstances. At age 11 he met Sharleen Rae Rynearson-Utley, his “Downtown girl who was slightly educated and pretty too. It was love at first sight.” They married on July 26, 1960, in Salt Lake City, beginning a marriage that lasted for 63 years. Together, they were blessed with four children.
Mack worked for the Salt Lake County Public Works department for 40 years. During those years he formed strong bonds of friendship with several of his colleagues. He possessed a profound love for the outdoors and enjoyed riding ATV’s, embarking on camping trips with his family, fishing, and hunting alongside his brothers, brother-in-law Lynn and his sons and grandchildren. Mack also found joy in going on road trips, exploring ghost towns, indulging in metal detecting, and unearthing treasures to bring back home. He held a particular fondness for attending the annual mountain man rendezvous in Fort Bridger, Wyoming. He had the opportunity to journey across the East Coast with his son Jerry in his big rig and loved every moment of the experience. He possessed the gift of storytelling and would share tales from his childhood and life adventures. His stories were always very captivating due to his animated nature and tendency to accompany his words with expressive hand gestures. He would often share stories of his beloved mother, emphasizing the deep love he held for her, saying, “I had the best mom ever; she was always there for me.”
At the age of 50, he took his love of whittling and ventured into woodcarving, displaying an exceptional talent. In his woodshop, he would spend hours creating intricate and beautiful carvings depicting Mountain Men, Cowboys, Indians, forest animals, and walking sticks. He later received awards for his outstanding and beautiful craftsmanship. Visitors to his home marveled at the extensive collection of carvings on display.
However, what brought Mack the greatest joy was his grandbabies and great grandbabies. He took immense delight in cuddling them, watching them grow and he was always so proud of all of their accomplishments. He also loved his grand dogs and great grand dogs always engaging them in endearing baby talk. His eyes would light up anytime he saw his loved ones. We affectionately referred to him as "Pa," and his presence will be greatly missed.
Mack leaves behind his wife Sharleen, their children Dean Williams, Glenda Williams, Jerry (Melonie) Williams and Vadra (Robert) Ramsey, as well as his sister Sherry Leone Williams. He also leaves behind a legacy of 18 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren, 3 grand dogs, 12 great-grand dogs and 6 grand cats. He was preceded in death by his father, mother and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 5, 2024, at 11:00 am at the Bluffdale First South Ward, situated at 15429 S. Iron Horse Blvd, Bluffdale, Utah 84065. Viewings will take place at the church on Thursday from 6:00-8:00 pm and on Friday from 9:00-10:30 am. Mack will be laid to rest at the South Jordan City Cemetery, located at 10630 S. 1055 W.
