Maidie Elizabeth Gyurin Lill D'Arienzo's Obituary
Maidie Elizabeth Gyurin Lill D’Arienzo, 101, of Draper, Utah, passed away on December 12, 2024 of congestive heart failure.
Maidie was born on May 19, 1923 in Chicago Illinois, to Maidie and Elmer Gyurin. Maidie graduated from McKinley High School in 1941. She had a son, John William Norris, born February 18, 1954. She married Robert Lester Lill on August 31, 1957. She had a daughter, Carol Elizabeth Lill, born December 21, 1960. After Robert passed away, she married Alfonso James “Fudge” D’Arienzo, on December 28, 1985.
Maidie was a kind spirit, and lit up the room with her beautiful smile and warm ways. She had many jokes and one-liners, and everyone loved her for her humor, sweetly delivered with just a hint of sass. The aides and nurses who took care of her in her final years all adored her and made sure her family knew that they did.
Maidie worked as a secretary for an actuary at Continental Insurance Company in Chicago and as a legal secretary for Sydney Wolfe of the law firm Rudnick and Wolfe, and held other office management positions throughout her life. She was very organized and made a career out of her problem-solving skills. When she was young, Maidie would skate at the Roller Bowl in Chicago and also loved to go dancing at the Aragon Ballroom. She moved from Illinois to Florida in 1984 and lived many happy years with her sweetheart Fudge in Edgewater near “her ocean” before making Utah her last home.
Maidie is survived by her son, John Norris; her daughter, Carol Goodman (Michael Mitchell); grandchildren, Katrina, Alicia, Sarah, Gwen, Johnny, David, Richie, Jack, John Henry, Troy, Traci, Tim, Steve, Keith, Suzanne, Russell (RIP), Cara, Robbie, Lisa, Tina, Kenny, and Tom; nieces Lorraine, Erica, and Ellen; great-grandchildren Brooke, Chris, Corbin, Kaitlyn, Tyler (RIP), Tessa, Josh, Makayla, Grayson, Braylin, Arianna; great-great grandchildren Amelia, Zella, and Ila Mae.
She was preceded in death by her two wonderful husbands, Robert Lill and Alfonso “Fudge” D’Arienzo, her brother, Elmer Gyurin (June), her stepchildren Robert Lill Jr. (Joanne), Darlene Waitekus, Joyce Ishler (Wayne), Richard D’Arienzo (Carol), and her daughter-in-law Cathryn Norris.
A virtual celebration of life will be held in Maidie’s honor via Zoom at 11:00 am Mountain Time on Saturday, December 14, 2024.
