Marcelo Labania Olmo Jr's Obituary
On Wednesday, January 11, 2023, Marcelo Labania Olmo Jr. passed away in Layton, Utah, surrounded by family and loved ones.
Marcelo was born on February 15, 1934, in the city of Iloilo on the Philippine Island of Panay. He was born into a large family and was the youngest of 8 children. He left home in 1961 to join the United States Navy and was stationed on multiple Navy ships during his military career. His service included several deployments throughout Europe and Asia, as well as a tour in Vietnam. Marcelo initially entered the Navy as a cook, but through relentless hard work and studying, he gained proficiency in electrical principles and was promoted to electrician. After serving nearly 20 years, Marcelo retired from the Navy and worked as an electrician in the private sector until reaching full retirement, after which he enjoyed spending time on beaches in the Philippines, surrounded by friends and family.
Marcelo’s first son, Mark, was born in 1968, and his second son, Sean, was born shortly after in 1969. Marcelo later married Joyce Elaine Stone and became a devoted stepfather to her three children; Molly, Tanya, and Mike. He and Joyce would go on to have four more children; Rosie, Vida, A.J., and Theo. Marcelo is predeceased by his son, Sean. He remained a loving father to all of his children and an amazing grandfather until the day he died.
He was a humble man who rarely put himself first. He valued the simple things in life. Marcelo was known for his gentle, easygoing nature and for providing sage advice during heartfelt conversations. He is survived by his remaining children and numerous friends and family members, including his sisters, Lily and Elsa, and his brother-in-law, Joe.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM MST on Friday, January 20, 2023, at Premier Funeral Services located at 67 E 8000 S, Midvale, UT 84047, with a viewing to begin at 9:00 AM MST. For those unable to attend in person, the service can be attended virtually by using the following link:
