Marlene Woolverton passed away peacefully on Tuesday November 29, 2016 at 10:58 p.m. surrounded by love and family at the age of 73 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Marlene McKendrick Woolverton was born in Fort Lewis, Washington on December 15, 1942 to Harold McKendrick and Irene Bernice Sperry. She grew up a military brat moving frequently with her family. At the young age of 21, she met her future husband Charles Woolverton in Tooele, Utah while she was working at the Tooele, UT Army Depot. They married January 4, 1964. Soon after their marriage, they transferred as civil service employees to the Rock Island Arsenal located in Rock Island, IL. They found a beautiful, bedroom community just across the Mississippi River in Bettendorf, IA where they lived and raised their four children, three daughters and one son. They lived in Bettendorf, Iowa for 51 years before moving to Orem, UT in 2015.
She is survived by her husband Charles Oran Woolverton and children, Jolene Kachold (Ken), Kristine Ann Bowles (Alan), Michael Charles Woolverton (Loria), and Melissa Jane Staska including her nine grandchildren, Adam Clark Wright (Sierra), Chelsey Marie Norton, Lindsey Nicole Porter (Kevin), Ryan Steven Kachold (Paige), Chase W. Norton, McKenzie Jane Staska, Karley Susan Clarke, Rhese Kenneth Clarke, Justin Michael Woolverton and two great grandchildren, Robert Justin Fite Jr. and Paxton Charles Wright. She is survived by her two sisters, Lois McKendrick Valderamma and Trudy McKendrick Valentine.
Marlene was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she performed much service in many callings and positions. She was also a devoted mother and loyal friend to all who knew her. She was a talented seamstress and baker. Marlene and Chuck supported the Bettendorf High School football program and Arts program. She enjoyed doing temple work and genealogy for her family members. She loved music and old movies as well as current “flicks.” Making others around her happy brought her the greatest joy and fulfillment in life. We will miss her kind and gentle spirit as well as her humor, love and attentiveness to her family and friends. She truly was a beautiful woman inside and out.
Marlene will be laid to rest at a private graveside service Monday December 5, 2016 at the Camp Williams Memorial Cemetery in Bluffdale, UT.
The family would like express their sincere appreciation to Legacy Village of Provo and Encompass Hospice of Orem, UT for their generous and sincere care as well as their loving concern shown to Marlene and her family. Thank you to Premier Funeral for their kind assistance as well.
