Margaret Lucy Cannon Tippetts' Obituary
Margaret Lucy Cannon Tippetts, age 64 flew away to heaven on Monday, April 29th, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Margaret was born on December 20th, 1959, to George Ivins and Isabel Hales Cannon in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her husband was grateful they were born in the same decade. She was nurtured in a loving home that was centered on the gospel of Jesus Christ. She learned hospitality in her childhood home where extended family and friends, especially travelers from England, were all welcomed with Cannon hospitality. Margaret attended Brigham Young University and the University of Utah. She graduated with a degree in accounting and earned her CPA.
She led a successful career as an accountant and eventually served as the Vice-President and Chief financial officer at Morris Travel. As the travel business evolved, Margaret worked meticulously and performed due diligence, becoming an expert in mergers and acquisitions. She was known as a beloved leader in her various roles.
Margaret’s experience in the travel business fueled her passion for international adventure. With friends and family, she toured many countries throughout the world. She and dear travel friends were legendary for taking long flights to Hong Kong or Korea for discount shopping.
England, Hawaii, and touring China were beloved destinations for Margaret. Whether state-side or international, Margaret loved the preparation process for trips as well as the journey. She had great planning skills.
Many family members have fond memories of trips, concerts, holiday celebrations, and family reunions with Margaret. She enjoyed making memories with people she loved, family and friends, and reveled in engaging and caring for her nieces and nephews.
Margaret was a dedicated friend and mentor to many, including nieces and nephews. She inspired youth at Brighton Girls Camp as a counselor and director. Later, as a parent, a favorite retreat with her husband and sons was the Cannon family cabin in Brighton. The Utah National Parks were also frequent destinations for the family.
She married her best friend and love of her life Les Tippetts in the Salt Lake Temple on May 15th, 1998. As beloved companions they worked together to create a beautiful home of faith, prayer, respect, and love for all of God’s children. Margaret fulfilled her lifelong dream of being a mother to two sons–Chase and Rex– and subsequently devoted all her energy to her sons’ academic and extracurricular success. Faith in Jesus Christ was instilled in her sons through her example of service.
Through the years, she excelled in many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which included General Conference Young Women's choir administrator, family history consultant, welfare committee, Primary teacher, Young Women’s advisor, stake and ward Relief Society presidency member, gospel doctrine teacher, Sunday School teacher, Cub Scout leader, visiting teacher and minister.
Even as she battled cancer and endured multiple medical treatments, she maintained faith, a grateful attitude and a willing heart.
Margaret is survived by her eternal companion Les Tippetts, and her two sons Chase and Rex Tippetts. She is also survived by her siblings George H. Cannon (Corinne), Wayne Cannon (Gwen), Grant Cannon (Sandra), Kent Cannon (Laurie), Doug Cannon (Kristin), and Mary Clark (Jeff). She is preceded in death by her parents George I. Cannon and Isabel Cannon and sister-in-law Alice Cannon.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 4th, at 11 a.m. at the East Mill Creek Stake Center, 3103 East Craig Drive, Millcreek, Utah. At the same location, a visitation will be held on Friday, May 3rd, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. and May 4th 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the services.
