Margaret Ekins Wilde's Obituary
Obituary for Margaret Ekins Wilde
November 30, 1943 – June 21, 2025
Margaret Ekins Wilde, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend, peacefully returned to her Heavenly Father on June 21st 2025, at the age of 81. Her life was a testament to her strength, enduring faith, and unwavering love for others.
Margaret was born November 30, 1943, in Delta, Utah, to George Ekins and Sebrina Cropper Ekins. She was the third of four children and grew up in a loving home with her siblings Kathryn, Gene, and David.
She met the love of her life, Frank Wilde, while visiting her sister Kathryn in Coalville, Utah. Frank quite literally jumped into the back of Margaret's car so they could attend a fireside together—and so began a beautiful love story. Frank later left to serve a mission in the Western States Mission, during which time he and Margaret made the decision to pursue eternity together. Margaret traveled with her parents and younger brother David to Delta, Colorado, where Frank was serving, to discuss their future. Frank proposed to Margaret while still on his mission. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on November 20, 1964.
Frank and Margaret started their life together in Salt Lake City, where Margaret worked for longtime family friend Dr. Oniki. They welcomed three children into their home: Lisa, Stacy, and Tyson. In 1974, their daughter Stacy was diagnosed with leukemia, and during this time, Margaret became pregnant with their youngest son, Travis. Stacy passed away in April 1976, just six weeks after Travis was born. Margaret treasured that brief window of time when her whole family was together and taught often and fervently of eternal families.
Margaret and Frank later faced the loss of their son Tyson, who passed away from bone cancer in June 1984 at the age of 12. Through unimaginable grief, Margaret held fast to her faith in Jesus Christ and the promises of the Plan of Salvation. She boldly and humbly testified of the reality of eternal life and family reunions beyond the veil.
Margaret’s life was centered around service. She served faithfully in many church callings, including Primary President, Stake Primary President, and her favorite calling—supporting Frank when he was called as Bishop of the BYU 81st Ward. Together, they found renewed joy ministering to young adults, whom they lovingly called “the best of the best.” Margaret also loved serving in the temple, especially in the baptistry, where she delighted in seeing “the young people” come to serve.
She had a deep love of home and family. Margaret was a gifted gardener, crafter, and artist. She created stained glass, lovingly tended her yard, and always had something warm in the oven—not for herself, but for neighbors, ward members, and friends in need. She watched over the elderly in her ward for many years, often showing up at their doors with a home-cooked meal and a heart full of compassion.
When Frank started WildeWood Cabinets, Margaret worked tirelessly to support him, keeping their home spotless and even turning part of the house into a showroom for his work. She was his partner in every way—especially as his loving caregiver when he was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s. Margaret cared for him with patience and devotion until his passing in October 2010. She loved Frank deeply and missed him every day.
In 1993, Margaret faced her own health challenge when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. As she did with every trial, she met it with faith and resilience. After her recovery, she volunteered with the American Cancer Society, meeting with women newly diagnosed with breast cancer and offering them hope, strength, and sisterhood.
In her later years, Margaret found joy in family trips, including a Hawaii getaway with Lisa and Matt’s family , a Disney Cruise with Travis and Sally’s family, and a Church History tour with her sister Kathryn. While she loved these adventures, Margaret’s favorite place was always home—her sanctuary of peace, love, and service. Margaret thoroughly enjoyed living at Treeo Senior Living her last 5 years. She was well cared for in her last two months of life at Spring Gardens memory care.
Margaret is preceded in death by her dear husband Frank; her daughter Stacy and son Tyson; her parents, George and Sebrina; and her brothers Gene and David. She is survived by her sister Kathryn Black; children Lisa (Matt) and Travis (Sally); her grandchildren Austin Kallunki (Haili) Alisha Kallunki (Mandy) Tyler Wilde (Shailee), Abigail Wilde, Emma Wilde, Porter Wilde, Blake Wilde and great granddaughter Nova Wilde. .
