Maria Sanchez
1930 - 2017
Maria passed peacefully from this life the morning of February 27, 2017, after a gradual decline in health. She was surrounded and supported by her loving family and caregivers during the last hours of her life. Maria was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, but has been a United States Citizen since 1968. She graduated from Brigham Young University with a Masters Degree in English and held many jobs through her lifetime including English Teacher, Police Officer, Surgical Tech, Social Worker, and her favorite part time job was working in Nursing Homes being a caregiver. She did humanitarian services in Mexico, Guatemala, and Uruguay. She was a proud member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many callings throughout her life. She lived a life of service.
Maria is survived by three children (and spouses): James Luis Gedo, Kari (Kyle) Nielson, and David (Gretchen) Gedo; daughter-in-law Elisa Espinosa; fourteen grandchildren: Ramon, Sergio, Juan Carlos Alarcon, and Chanel Nelson;
Bradley, Jason, Jordan, Jacob, Skyler Nielson, and Melissa Shelton;
Michelle, Zion, Sidney, Penelope Gedo; Thirty-three great grandchildren and ten nieces and nephews whom she loved very much. Maria is also survived by her sister Elia (Kenneth) Fadely. She was preceded in death by her one daughter: Elvira, 2 brothers: Nene and Hector Sanchez.
A funeral service will be held on 11:00 am, Friday, March 3, 2017 with a viewing one hour prior at the LDS Chapel located at 270 North 900 East American Fork, UT.
