Ms. Buchanan was my second grade teacher and the most influential teacher I ever had in my life. Not only did she get my my first solo singing performance in front of my entire school (followed by many more) she also taught me to draw and write poetry. She even helped me to submit my poetry into a state wide poetry gathering with students from all across the state, most of which were much older than me. This gave me the confidence to be where I am today, writing and illustrating my first children’s book about angels. Marianne is definitely an angel to me, and I have chosen to dedicate my book to her as I wouldn’t be who I am today without her influence in my life.

What an enthusiast Marianne was!! It was always a pleasure to have her stop by our downtown gallery/ studio, and hear her wonderful feedback on my mother, Phyllis Horne's paintings. She was such a personality, and definitely enjoyed people and culture. Shared such fun stories! My condolences to her family, and many friends, and especially to all those from Richfield, whose lives she touched early on. Its moving to learn about the full range of her involvement in the local cultural scene. Her energy will be missed.

We moved into the The Cottages on Kimball’s Lane about the same time. We forged a fast friendship. We were always so impressed with Marianne love of family and her upbringing in Richfield. She loved her parents and always had such interesting stories about them. She was a woman of many talents and was willing to share those talents with her many friends. As one of Marianne's Solar Sisters, I have many happy memories of Marianne. I was always with her throughout out school years in Richfield. She was an important part of my early life. She was the one I went to to determine what books to read, her mother was a good guide. Many hours were spent at each other's houses playing. As teenagers, I would play the piano and she would sing all the popular music of the day. We even joined the same sorority when we went to the U of U. We were separated for quite a few years when we married and lived in different parts of the country, but when I moved back to Utah with my family we often got together with the other Solar Sisters who were in Utah and had great times catching up on our lives. I have missed her company as we have grown older and unable to do things without help. She had such an amazing memory and recall of the past so I enjoyed talking to her on the phone. I look forward to visiting with her again in a few more years.

What fun and happy memories I have of Mrs. K! She was my first grade teacher, and I was her favorite student! How I loved being in her classroom, and in her presence! I remember how she would sit with us, "Indian Style", on the rug, while she taught us to sing the silliest songs! I think of how her face would light up with expression whenever she was singing or telling us stories. She made everything so fun, and she had a special way of making you want to do your best always! Of coarse she taught us more than just school work. Even as first graders, she expected us to be responsible citizens. Along with reading and writing, she taught us about being kind and practicing good manners. Thinking back, I realize how much she truely cared about each one of her students! I'm so thankful that I was one of them!
She was that one special teacher for me. The one who made a difference in my life, and left such a beautiful and remarkable impression on my soul. No doubt she is flying high with the angels, singing and smiling, filling the heavens with her radiance!
Robert, I'm so sorry for your loss. I pray that God will comfort you in this time of sadness.
