Marilyn Joan Barnett's Obituary
Marilyn Joan Barnett passed away peacefully at her home in Sandy, Utah on July 21, 2024. She was born on November 8, 1934 in Belle Valley, Ohio. Joan married Ward Barnett in 1959, they moved to multiple states due to his job, settling in Utah in 1972. During this time, Joan had four children, who were her priority. After settling in Utah and as her children grew older, she started working part-time at The Broadway, which later became Weinstocks, in the Fashion Place Mall. She enjoyed her job, working in the domestic department, where she made many friends. Eventually, she retired from Weinstocks and was able to help care for her first two grandchildren. Joan loved to sew and was very creative. She used these talents and had a successful eBay store selling embellished overalls and other children's clothing. Her and her husband also enjoyed going to Wendover, just west of Salt Lake City in Nevada, where she would play the slot machines and he played poker.
She is preceded in death by her husband Ward, parents John and Mona Palmer, brothers John and Randy, and sister Vera. She is survived by children Jay (Betty), Kevin, MaryAnn (Pat) and David (Sabrina). Grandchildren Christine, Marcus, Ty, and Alex. And brother Dan Palmer.
Our family would like to thank the staff at Quality Home Health and Hospice that helped us keep her home, where she wanted to be during her last months.
