Marilynn Barney Taylor's Obituary
Marilynn Barney Taylor, 81, peacefully passed from this life on January 27, 2023, and returned home to be reunited with her beloved family, including her husband, Marvin. Marilynn was born February 7, 1941, in Spanish Fork, Utah to Stephen Huff Barney and Blanche Huff Barney.
After spending her childhood in Spanish Fork, Marilynn moved to Provo for middle and high school. She excelled in music, becoming a talented clarinet player, and was the drum majorette for the Provo High Marching Band. She later attended Brigham Young University. There she met Marvin Lewis Taylor and after his missionary service, they were married and sealed on December 14, 1961, in the Manti Utah Temple.
She had a great love of sewing for her family, whether it be costumes for her kids or dresses for her granddaughters, and later she created beautiful embroidery. She loved science fiction and fantasy books and movies. She worked on many family history projects, including writing the biography of her mother with whom she loved to spend time.
Marilynn was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various callings such as Relief Society President, Stake Music Librarian, and Primary Music Leader which she particularly enjoyed. More importantly, she had a firm faith in her Savior, Jesus Christ, and was very distressed if she missed attending church or reading her scriptures.
She spent 34 years living in California as she raised her family. She frequently stated that her 27 years in Huntington Beach was her favorite time in her life. After her husband’s passing away, Marilynn moved to American Fork, Utah, to support, love, be with, and enjoy her grandchildren and great-grandchildren for the last 20 years.
Marilynn was never inconvenienced to sacrifice whatever she had to for her children's well-being and happiness. She believed in her children’s potential and went to great lengths to support and foster each child’s interests, hobbies, and pursuits to give them wings to fly. She listened intently and took great interest in each family member’s life. She inherited her mother’s love language of gift-giving resulting in countless gifts to all her family.
Marilynn is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her brother Steve Barney (Bus). Her children and their spouses survive her; Melanee and Dan Phillips, Myron and Kim Taylor, Marc and Alison Taylor, Meredith Ryan and Dixie Taylor, Matthew and Sara Taylor, and Michael and Nicole Taylor. She is also survived by her 26 grandchildren and their spouses, and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday, February 4, 2023 at 10:30, with a viewing at 9:30 at 680 N 350 W American Fork, Utah. Her burial will be next to her beloved husband at Evergreen Cemetery, 2000 S 400 E, Springville, Utah.
