Marilynne Elizabeth Moffitt's Obituary
Marilynne was born on June 24, 1942, to Donald S. Moffitt and Marvel Elizabeth Hatch in the bustling city of Richfield Utah. She attended High School at St. Mary of the Wasatch in SLC. Marilynne then continued her education at St. Mary’s College in Notre Dame Indiana where she was also preparing to be a Nun. She returned to Utah in 1968 to continue her education at the University of Utah where she graduated in 1972 with her PhD in Psychology. She continued at the University of Utah as an Associate Professor of Psychology until 1979 when she opened her Private Practice as a Psychotherapist specializing in Hypnotherapy and Family Counseling. Marilynne was a Published Phycologist. She retired from her practice in 2014.
Marilynne loved studying all religions, but her dream was always to be a Catholic Nun. After 6 years with St. Mary’s in Notre Dame she had to return to Utah for surgery and family issues and never returned. After her professional retirement she was welcomed into the Carmelite Monastery in Salt Lake, but after only one year her health caused her to have to leave her dream behind again. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Carmelite Monastery, Salt Lake City Utah.
Marilynne was predeceased by her parents. As Marilynne’s “Person” for almost 20 years, I enjoyed meeting or hearing about those who entered her life. Marilynne loved to hike and mountain bike in her youth in the mountains surrounding Richfield and Price and was known to run the few miles to work every day in Cottonwood Heights. She left behind many friends who filled her life with purpose. I would like to thank Generations Care Management, A Plus Hospice Care, and the many staff members from the servers, housekeepers, CNAs, and Nursing staff at Avamere Mountain Ridge Assisted Living who loved her and cared for her.
