Marinda Michelle Drake's Obituary
Marinda Michelle Drake, 41, of Provo, Utah passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 15, 2019. The first-born child of Michael and Patti Drake, Marinda was born October 4, 1977 in Provo. She came into this world with as much sweetness as she had sass. She was known for her fun-loving energetic personality, and for having the kindest heart.
Marinda attended both Northridge and Windsor Elementary schools, and Canyon View Junior High, in Orem, Utah before moving with her family to Gilbert, Arizona. There she went to Mesquite Junior High and Gilbert High School before attending Eastern Arizona College in Thatcher, Arizona.
As a child Marinda was very athletic and loved to be active. She played volleyball, basketball, and softball. She had lots of friends in the neighborhood and spent as much time outside as she could. Throughout high school, she played the flute and piccolo in the marching band. Growing up she watched over her 5 younger brothers and sisters and was the mastermind of many sibling shenanigans.
Marinda knew the value of hard work from a young age, however, what she valued most about the jobs she held were the people with whom she worked. Some of her favorite job experiences included working with her cousins at Stevenson’s Genealogy, her dear friend at the Utah County Assessor's office, and as a favorite amongst the children she met as a crossing guard.
Marinda loved music, animals, decorating for Halloween, and sharing good food with family and friends. Few things brought Marinda as much joy as a cold bubbly Diet Coke. She called it “The Elixir of Life”. She had the best sense of humor and tried to inject laughter into every aspect of her life.
The most important thing in Marinda’s life was her family. She loved her siblings and her parents, but most of all she loved being an aunt. Throughout the last decade of her life, nothing was more precious to her than making memories with her 4 nephews and 1 niece. She held the title of favorite aunt and there is no question why. Whether it was playing make-believe, setting up tea parties, playing video games, or just having a movie night, Marinda was happy to do it if it put a smile on their faces.
Marinda endured many health-related trials throughout her life which often prevented her from going and doing as much as she wanted. She never let this pain, or the struggles of life dull the sparkle in her eyes. Though our family aches to see her again, we are grateful to know she is free from pain. Marinda taught us love, loyalty, patience, compassion, forgiveness, and kindness. Her personality brought color to our family, and we won’t be the same until we are all together again someday.
Marinda is survived by her parents: Michael and Patti (Williams) Drake, her siblings Susie Drake, Tom (Kristen) Drake, Rebekah Drake, Jon (Katlynn) Drake, and Brittany (Adam) Stubbs; her beloved niece Kaisha, and nephews Brody, Taiven, Brayden, and Maicen; many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her grandparents Jack and Bernice Williams, Elaine Drake, and Wilbur Drake.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2019 at 11 a.m. in the Edgemont 6th Ward Chapel 4056 North Timpview Drive in Provo. Friends may call prior to services at the church from 9:30-10:45 a.m. Interment will be at the East Lawn Memorial Cemetery.
