Mario Guido Valer's Obituary
Mario Guido Valer, 80, of Provo, Utah, passed away on December 15, 2025, at the Utah Valley Hospital.
Born on September 4, 1945, in Sicuani, Cusco, Peru to Guillermina Cardenas and Wilfredo Valer, Mario finished his studies and went on to travel different parts of Peru where he eventually moved to Lima. From there, he would go on to immigrate to the USA, become a naturalized American citizen, and eventually meet his wife, Gloria Abarca. The two would marry in Provo in 2008.
Mario’s love for his home country was equally measured for his love of delicious coking of Peruvian cuisine. He was able to create a gourmet experience in a humble home. He loved to play his guitar and beautifully sing various Spanish songs. Many who knew Mario knew he loved to befriend people and loved to talk; he enjoyed the moments of going outside and talking to random strangers and giving drinks for those who were working hard outside or might have needed it.
He enjoyed watching Westerns with a deep admiration for John Wayne and Clint Eastwood, alongside watching Chuck Norris and Cantinflas films. He had a love for gardening, and took pride in showing off his tulips, grapes, tomatoes, and watermelons. He had a fond interest in writing, history, and politics. He loved taking pictures and he loved to capture many of life’s moments he viewed as precious.
Mario loved taking care of his parakeets as well as spending time with his dog, Rumi. Mario also loved to go on walks, and never showed signs of slowing down.
He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Gloria Abarca; his son, Philippe Valer; and his son, Aldo Valer.
Mario’s warmth, melody, charity, and smile will always be remembered for all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Mario Guido Valer, de 80 años y residente de Provo, Utah, falleció el 15 de diciembre de 2025 en el Hospital Utah Valley.
Nacido el 4 de septiembre de 1945 en Sicuani, Cusco, Perú, hijo de Guillermina Cárdenas y Wilfredo Valer. Mario completó sus estudios y recorrió diversas regiones del Perú hasta que finalmente se mudó a Lima. Años más tarde, emigró a los Estados Unidos, se nacionalizó ciudadano estadounidense y, con el tiempo, conoció a su esposa, Gloria Abarca. Ambos contrajeron matrimonio en Provo en el año 2008.
El profundo amor que Mario sentía por su patria solo era igualado por su pasión por la gastronomía peruana. Tenía el don de crear experiencias gourmet dentro de la sencillez de su hogar. Disfrutaba mucho de tocar la guitarra y poseía una hermosa voz para interpretar diversas canciones en español. Quienes lo conocieron recordarán su gran facilidad para hacer amigos y su gusto por la conversación; disfrutaba salir a caminar y charlar con desconocidos, siempre mostrando su generosidad al ofrecer bebidas a quienes trabajaban arduamente bajo el sol o a cualquier persona que lo necesitara.
Le gustaba ver películas del oeste con una profunda admiración por John Wayne y Clint Eastwood, además de disfrutar las películas de Chuck Norris y Cantinflas. Sentía un gran amor por la jardinería y se enorgullecía de mostrar sus cosechas de tulipanes, uvas, tomates y sandías. Asimismo, cultivó un gran interés por la escritura, la historia y la política. Le encantaba tomar fotografías y capturar muchos momentos de la vida que consideraba preciosos.
Mario amaba cuidar a sus periquitos, y disfrutaba de la compañía de su perro, Rumi. Le encantaba salir a caminar y nunca dio señales de querer detenerse.
Le sobreviven su esposa de 19 años, Gloria Abarca; su hijo, Philippe Valer; y su hijo, Aldo Valer.
La calidez, la melodía, la generosidad y la sonrisa de Mario vivirán por siempre en el recuerdo de todos aquellos que tuvieron el privilegio de conocerlo.
