Marion DeMar Aller's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Marion DeMar Aller, a Vietnam veteran and father of five children. DeMar passed peacefully on March 17, 2023, at the age of 75.
Born in 1948 to Marion and Afton Aller, DeMar was a curious kid and liked to “tinker” which often led to him disassembling things to see how they worked. At his high school graduation, his grandma handed him a gift. Upon opening it, he recognized a watch he had taken apart as a child. She asked him if he was smart enough to fix it now that he had graduated and a good laugh was shared.
DeMar had an affinity for music and muscle cars, both were a source of joy for him, and he loved to share that interest with those around him.
Shortly after graduation from Sky View Highschool (Smithfield) in 1966, he enlisted in the United States Army. At the age of 19, he bravely served two tours in the Vietnam War as a teletype repairman and received an honorable discharge.
During a leave, he met Krista Liljenquist. They stayed in contact for the remainder of his service in Vietnam and would marry shortly after his return in 1970. During their marriage of 25 years, they shared five children: Donavon, Adrienne, Mikall, McKenzie, and Dylan.
Professionally, DeMar became a skilled tradesman exposing a natural gifting and talent in a variety of areas. He would often use projects as teaching moments and has left a legacy of knowledge and a passion for quality work among his children.
DeMar’s career evolved into a position as an inspector at Thiokol. He received multiple extraordinary service awards during his employment. He enjoyed the rocket test launches and was excited to share them with his family.
After Thiokol, he began his non-paid chauffeur service for his kids to their seemingly endless sports, activities, and events. Which is still very much appreciated.
During this time he attended USU, studying Philosophy and Religion. He also began writing poetry about his service in Vietnam, and would eventually publish a few of his poems.
He spent his twilight years, with Dylan and Shelby (grand-daughter) in Logan/Smithfield where he taught another generation the great game of chess.
His move to Smithfield reconnected him with his highschool friends Mike, and Dale (cousin). Dale aided in his move to Pioneer Lodge Retirement Center, and eventually to Ogden to the George E. Wahlen Veteran’s Center where he passed. We are deeply grateful for care, compassion, and unwavering support Dale has shown for our father throughout his lifetime.
We would also like to extend our gratitude and sincere appreciation to the dedicated team of caregivers at Pioneer Lodge, and George E. Wahlen Veteran’s Center. Their kindness and compassion made a world of difference. Thank you!
Godspeed Dad, we love you.
DeMar is survived by: Sisters: Nadean, Paulette (Boyd) Children: Donavon, Adrienne (Cody), Mikall, McKenzie (Adam) and family, and Dylan (Noelle) (Shelby/Sage).
A Graveside service will be held in his honor in Smithfield Cemetery at a later date TBD.
