Marion Dickert Cowan's Obituary
Marion “Mickey” Dickert Cowan passed away March 17th 2018, surrounded by her family. She was 96 years young and lived every one of those years to the fullest.
She was born September 22, 1921 in Scofield, Utah and was adopted by Walter Thomas and Mary Jane Dickert. She attended South High in Salt Lake City. She married her sweetheart Sidney Floyd Cowan on November 29, 1945 in the Salt Lake Temple. She spent most of her life in Salt Lake City, and most of that time on Hubbard Ave.
She worked as a secretary and office manager at American National Insurance for many years. She practiced the art of shorthand up until the time she retired at age 83. She served in many positions in the LDS church, but her favorite was working with the children in Primary.
She was a great camper and fisherwoman. She spent many summers in Yellowstone with family and neighborhood friends. She always enjoyed time outdoors camping, boating and especially spending time with grandchildren. She loved flowers, especially the roses and peonies in her yard.
After her family, her second love was the Utes. She and Floyd had Utah basketball season tickets for many years. Even after she could no longer go to the games she would watch them on TV and wring her hands during tense games.
She loved having people in her home. Almost all of her grandchildren, (and some other "strays") lived in her basement as poor, starving students or newlyweds. She charged a pittance. She just wanted to have them near. If you were lucky enough to be a guest in her home, you were privy to some of her famous spaghetti… probably 2 or 3 servings. She was tiny and feisty and wonderful. We were lucky to have had her for so long.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Sidney Floyd Cowan, and her son, Walter Floyd Cowan. She will be sorely missed and is survived by her two daughters, Colleen (Scott) Walker and Mary Jane (William) McGregor; daughter-in-law, Wendy Cowan; 9 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday March 26th at 11:00 am at the LDS Stake Center, 1509 West 1500 South, Woods Cross, with a viewing prior to the funeral from 10:00 am – 10:45 am. Interment at Bountiful City Cemetery.
