Marion Nunnelley's Obituary
Marion Nunnelley, age 84, of West Jordan, Utah, passed away peacefully in her home December 14th, 2022 with family by her side.
Marion was born January 24, 1938 in Salt Lake City, Utah to James D. and LaMar Crofts. She was proceeded in death by her husband Robert R. Nunnelley of 42 years, and her sister Linda Crofts. She is survived by her three children Joseph (Mary) Nunnelley, Michael (Nadalee) Nunnelley, and Kathryn (David) Millet, 8 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers James D. Crofts and Howard Crofts, and 2 sisters Ann Kump and Joyce Smith, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Marion graduated from West High School in 1956 where she was very involved with the Speech Arts Club, Pep Club, Booster Club, Assemblies Club, and the Panther Club. She later met and married Robert R. Nunnelley on July 21, 1961. Together they lived in many parts of the United States including Idaho, Montana, Washington, Louisiana, and Utah. They raised three remarkable children; Joseph Nunnelley, Michael Nunnelley, and Kathryn Nunnelley. They enjoyed many hobbies together, including rally auto racing with the Sports Car Club of America, competing in Utah and Idaho,. Marion valued education and learning, and was an example to many that it is never too late for knowledge. She obtained an associate degree in arts from Bellevue Community College in 1987 at the age of 49. She was awarded a honorary Doctorate of Human Letters from Louisiana University at the age of 58. Marion was a proficient student and placed on the Dean's List several years, and was a member of the national honors and service chapter Gamma Beta Phi Society. She had a distinguished career of 10 years with the Department of Transportation and Development with the State of Louisiana. She was actively involved in her community, particularly the Boy Scouts of America, where she was recognized for distinguished service with many honors, including the prestigious Silver Beaver Award. Marion was exceptionally involved with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where she fulfilled many callings of responsibility in the auxiliaries of the church. Marion was also an accomplished artist in the mediums of charcoal, pastel, graphite, and sculpture, receiving many awards and accolades for her talent. Several of her art pieces were invited for public gallery exhibits in Washington and Louisiana.
A memorial service will take place at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 22nd at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 4113 West 6200 South, West Jordan, Utah. Visitation will be at the church between 9:30-10:45 prior to the service. The family will have a private burial at Elysian Gardens at 1075 East 4500 South, Salt Lake City, Utah following the services.
