Marjorie Hyde Humphreys' Obituary
Marjorie Hyde Humphreys passed away on August 13, 2022 at the age of 95. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on September 23, 1926, to Charles Stanford Hyde and Lanora Zurviah Sperry Hyde. She graduated from South High in 1943 and attended Brigham Young University where she met her eternal sweetheart, Phillip K Humphreys. They were married June 4, 1951, in the Salt Lake Temple.
Marjorie loved music and was a gifted vocalist, singing the lead in the BYU opera, The Marriage of Figuro. She delighted audiences everywhere with her beautiful soprano voice. She enjoyed being a member of the Novatones, a women's singing group in Novato, California. She worked as a secretary from a young age and excelled in shorthand and typing. Mother was an avid gardener and enjoyed flowers and working in her beautiful yard. She loved sports and was very athletic. She bemoaned the fact that she was born fifty years too early to participate in organized womens' sports. Mom enjoyed her bowling league and bridge club until she was in her early nineties. Generous to a fault, she loved helping her grandchildren with their education and other needs. Mom made many memories with her grandchildren, spoiling them on their birthdays and at her yearly Christmas party
Our mother was a valiant and devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings. Her faithful life was an example to us all. Marge and Phil served a mission in Aukland, New Zealand, and she especially enjoyed their time on Auitutaki in the Cook Islands. There they rode motor scooters around the island as they friendshipped and strengthened the members on the island.
Marjorie is survived by her sister, Charleen O'Brien; brother-in law, Barry Humphreys (Barbara) and her four children: Claudia Jerman (Bry), Debra Carlson (Steven), Greg Humphreys (Morelia), and James Humphreys (Wendy), sixteen grandchildren, and 35 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at the Dimple Dell Park Ward, 3100 East 9880 South, Sandy, Utah with a viewing to begin at 9:00 am. Interment to follow at Mountain View Memorial Park, 3100 East Bengal Blvd, Cottonwood Heights, Utah.
In lieu of flowers, our mother requests donations to be made to the Missionary Fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
