Mark Richard Honey II's Obituary
Mark Richard Honey II, affectionately known as "Richie" died peacefully in his home on February 7th, 2015 in American Fork UT. Richie fought duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) for almost 25 years, he was 24 at the time of his passing. Richie was born on October 5th, 1990 three months premature and weighted only 2 lbs and 1/2 an ounce in Provo UT, to his parents Mark and Sharon Honey. He graduated from Dan Peterson School in the special education district on May 29th, 2012. His sister Rebekah was his escort and helped him deliver his carefully prepared speech as follows:
"I love to come to school. I love learning new things. I love seeing my teachers. I will miss coming to school. I will miss the teachers who help me every day. I will miss Mona the most. She makes great lunch and always makes me feel loved. I will miss Mr. Drew. I will miss Sandy. I will miss Pam fixing stuff. I will miss Caitlyn reading Harry Potter. I will miss Mrs. Wong, Kathy and Birthann. I will miss Mrs. Wong calling the busses. I will miss Rachel loading the dishwasher. I will miss going to the Cottage for lunch. I will miss coming to school and telling jokes. I will miss going and seeing the grate by the basement." In addition to loving school, Richie loved getting into mischief, playing on his i-pad, anything to do with anatomy, death, and the macabre, He loved Halloween, scary movies, and the Prophet Joseph Smith (he said the mechanical arm crawling across on the floor for Halloween was Joseph Smith's arm, and that he was buried in our yard). He loved telling jokes, mostly ones only he understood fully, but also came out extremely funny to all of us, as he had an incredible sense of humor.
Richie had an amazing tolerance for pain and never complained about his situation. His was a truly noble and majestic spirit and well loved by his Heavenly Father.
Richie is survived by his parents, Mark and Sharon, his three sisters, Jessica, Rachel, and Rebekah; his four brothers, Nathanael, Joshua, Andrew, and Anthony.
Richie will be buried in the American Fork cemetery with adjacent future plots for his three other siblings fighting DMD so they can all rest together, made possible through amazingly charitable contributions.
A memorial will take place on February 14th, at 12:00 p.m at the meeting house of the Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints located on 850 North 900 East American Fork, UT 84003. A viewing combined with conversation of fond memories will precede the memorial from 10:30 - 11:45 a.m. All are welcome to attend and help celebrate Richie's life.
