Marla Ann Jones Barney
Marla was born July 18th, 1940 in Salt Lake City, UT and returned home to her Father in Heaven June 21st, 2026 in South Jordan, UT from causes incident to age. Marla was greeted by her parents and husband Clarence and many other family members and others she had served while on the earth.
Marla was a long time resident of Riverton, UT since 1976. Marla met and married Clarence Barney in 1970 and together, they have one son, Derek.
Marla graduated from Jordan High School and then went to LDS Business College and on to work in various office capacities.
Marla greatly enjoyed playing the piano in primary and the organ in sacrament meetings. She also enjoyed serving others while working at Danville in Riverton. Marla was fortunate to work at the LDS Church Office Building where she was a banquet supervisor which included serving the General Authorities and their families in between sessions of General Conference.
Marla loved doing puzzles, bingo, reading, crocheting, pulling weeds, listening to the Beatles, Harry Styles, The Beach Boys and being a social butterfly. She made many friends throughout the years and was loved and supported by her neighbors and ward family.
Marla is survived by her son, Derek Barney and wife Nissa along with her step-children, Brandon and Connie (deceased) Barney, Barrett and Janice Barney, Tacy Barney, 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, and her cousin Sharon Bouck. Marla is preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Lillian Jones, husband Clarence, step-daughter Jolee Hojnik, a granddaughter, grandson, and great granddaughter. We know she has been greeted with many open and loving arms.
Our family, along with Marla, wishes to thank all of her friends, neighbors, and those at the Riverton Senior Center, Carrington Court Assisted Living and Memory Care, and Enhabit Hospice. Your love and service made such a difference in her life as well as ours. We will be forever grateful.
Marla and Clarence will be interred together at the Bluffdale, Utah VA Memorial Cemetery at a future date to be determined. In lieu of any flowers, please provide service to someone you may or may not know or make a service, materials or monetary donation to the Riverton Senior Center. Thank you.
