Martha Jane Herbert Harris' Obituary
Angel Mother We all agree you are best Mom and Grandma in the world! Martha Jane Herbert Harris passed away in her home November 28, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Evansville, Indiana, April 26, 1921 to Ralph and Ruth Herbert. Martha married the love of her life, Robert Lionel (Lonnie) Harris June 26, 1944. She endured a long 4 years with Lonnie gone while serving in the US Navy. They went on to join the LDS church and dedicated their lives to serving others. Together with their daughter, Linda Jane they served 3 missions, 2 in Samoa and 1 in Salt Lake City. Martha always recognized the Lords blessings in her life and acknowledged him in all things. She held many church callings throughout her life, but the one she really cherished was her calling in the Salt Lake Temple. She loved her family and friends and cherished every moment she had with all of them. Grandma gave all that she had to those around her before her passing. One of her most redeeming qualities was that of always being happy! She was spunky, generous, fun, quick to laugh and always had something funny to say! She gave us unlimited hugs and kisses and was always ready to lend an ear. Everyone who knew her has a funny story to tell. We will NEVER forget how much she loved us and we will always love you! You are a wonderful example to us Mom and Grandma! She once said “If my parting has made a void, then fill it with memories untold.” We will look for you “Somewhere over the Rainbow”, with Grandpa singing it!! WE LOVE YOU!!! Martha was preceded in death by her husband and parents. Survived by her daughter Linda (Douglas) Bott, Grandchildren: Jonathan (Marian), Jared (Sarah), Marianne, April (Nathan), Jana (Colin) and Grayson (Alissa), and 16 wonderful great-grandchildren whom she always loved to being around!! A viewing will be held December 5, 2014 from 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at Edgehill 2nd Ward, 1750 South 1500 East, Salt Lake City, Utah. Interment and graveside service will follow at 1:00 pm in the Salt Lake City Cemetery, 4th Avenue and “N” Street, SLC, UT.
