I am saddened to read about the passing of Mary Anne Chalker. Earlier in her career, the "Distinguished Woman of the Year" was awarded to her by Soroptimist International of East Los Angeles. We recognized Mary Anne for her work & trailblazing efforts in advancing the equality of women in business & in the boardroom. My heartfelt condolences to her son and family. Olivia Campos-Bergeron
Mary Anne and my mom lived in the same cottage at Pacifica Palm Springs for a few years. I loved Mary Anne. She liked me too and she often came to sit with me and mom in the public dining area. She sometimes reached to clasp my hand and gave me a big smile. I always waived and said hi to her when I arrived at the cottage. I’d been told she had a successful past but I was impressed by her obituary in the Los Angeles Times. She was even more accomplished than I imagined. I hadn’t seen her since March (also true for my mom). Mary Anne brightened my day. She often spoke to me in Spanish, which I didn’t understand, but it was clear that she was saying something positive. She had a smile on her face most of the time. I will miss her.
