Mary Joyce Hyer, 91, passed away September 28, 2023 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born June 9, 1932 in Mancos, CO, the daughter of Francis and Doris Halls. While performing as a Country-Western singer/guitarist, she met her future husband, Allen George Phelps. They married September 16, 1949 and had 5 children. They later divorced in 1973. Joyce remarried Maurice Hyer in 2002 and they remained together until Maurice’s passing in 2010. She attended San Antonio Vocational and Technical High School in San Antonio, TX and graduated as the class Valedictorian and received multiple scholarship opportunities. She was employed for a short time as a Beautician and later as a Bookkeeper in the accounting industry for 35 years. She also served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Dallas-Fort Worth Mission. In life, she was exceptionally skilled as a seamstress, upholsterer, quilter and excelled in cooking for her family. She was also an adept family historian. She is survived by 4 daughters; Linda (Pat), Bountiful UT., Sandy (Mike), Ogden UT., Peggy (Gar), Loveland CO., Cindy (Dale), Elsinore UT.; 1 son, Steven (Brenda), Edmond OK, and 1 Brother George “Bud” (Linda), Holladay, UT,. From Maurice, she is survived by Kathy (Kary), South Jordan, UT., Venette (Larry), North Babylon, NY., and Janet (Kevin), Lincoln, NE. She has 31 grandchildren and 72 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. A viewing will be held 10:00 - 10:45 a.m., Saturday, October 7, 2023 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints meeting house, 2675 E. 4430 S, Holladay, UT, 84124, with the funeral service following at 11:00 a.m. Special thanks to Paramount Health and Rehabilitation employees for their excellent care and service.
