I am deeply saddened to learn of Mary Lu’s passing. When my family moved to Spanish Fork in 1958, Mary Lu and I became fast friends. Our parents were friends, my mother having grown up next door to her father Grant Harris in Oak City. Grant and Helen Harris helped raise me! We blazed a trail through the block between our houses. I have so many fond memories with her as we did so many things together: Primary class and activities, Ward floats and parades, trips to the swimming pool and to the library, 4-H activities including State 4-H conventions, MIA activities, FHA conventions, choir and smaller singing groups, piano duets. We really rocked out on Basin Street Blues. She was always the smartest kid in class. But she was also the wisest. Along with her quick wit, she gave me valuable advice. I’m certain she was a remarkable mother and teacher and that she guided them all with live and understanding. Mary Lu’s friendship helped to shape who I am. I love her. I will miss her.
