MaryBeth Hanson
On March 14, 1939, in Flint, Michigan, a girl was born who would spend her life creating beauty, nurturing everything around her, and living her faith out loud. MaryBeth grew up in nearby Lapeer, Michigan, where she developed the curiosity and steady determination that would carry her through the decades to come. She went on to Eastern Michigan University, earning a bachelor's degree in education and training to become an elementary school teacher.
But it was inside her own home, MaryBeth would do her greatest teaching. She married Owen Tustian and together they built a bustling household of five children — a home filled with noise, mess, laughter, and love. MaryBeth chose to set aside the classroom for the far busier one of motherhood and poured herself into it completely.
She was never a woman who sat still. Her hands were always making something — jewelry crafted piece by piece, textiles woven and stitched into art, canvases brought to life with oils and acrylics. If it could be created, MaryBeth wanted to try it. Her gardens sprawled and flourished under her care, and more than one injured or ailing animal found its way into her hands and back to health. She simply couldn't help but nurture whatever crossed her path.
Her faith was the thread running through all of it. As a lifelong, devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, MaryBeth served for years in the Relief Society, and her belief in Jesus Christ shaped how she loved her family, treated her neighbors, and faced every season of her life.
Later in life came a story few get to live: reconnecting with Bill Hanson, her high school sweetheart, decades after their paths had first crossed. The love that had waited all those years finally had its turn, and MaryBeth moved to Utah to be with him. They spent ten wonderful years together, a second chapter as full of joy as the first.
MaryBeth's legacy lives on in her husband, Bill Hanson; her five children, Jayna Porter (Michael), Peter Tustian (Barbara), Amie Leszczynski (Tony), DeeAnna Tracy (Aaron), and Daniel Tustian (Natalie); her 45 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Harold Seelye (Jackie) and JoEllen Curtis (Rolla). She was preceded in death by her husband, Owen Tustian, and her sisters, Ann Lilly, Margaret Powers, and Jane Knox.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 27th at 600 S. 500 W. Lehi, Utah. There will be a viewing from 9:00 am to 11:00 followed by the funeral service from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
