Matelita Vikatolia Maumau
1942 - 2021
Our beautiful matriarch, Matelita Vikatolia Maumau (Vika) of South Jordan, Utah passed away peacefully in her home at 12:24pm on Tuesday, July 13, 2021. Surrounded by her beloved little friends (grandchildren & great grandchildren). She was 78 years of age.
Vika was born, the youngest of 11 children to Lehapi Moala (Tonga) and Sosaia Finau Fotu on August 20, 1942 in Fou’I, of the Kingdom of Tonga. She was a beautiful, intelligent and studious young woman with a playful spirit. She was courted by the dashing Tevita Longani Maumau and were married November 29, 1961. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Hamilton New Zealand Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Her exemplary life was defined by the Christian ideal of unconditional love, service and hard work. She was a mother figure to many, not just her own children, and became renowned, along with her husband, for their generosity and humor. She studied the scriptures daily and was known to always have a kind word for everyone. Apart from her unshakeable faith in Jesus Christ, Vika’s family was her proudest accomplishments, her most precious treasure.
She is preceded in death by her darling, Tevita Longani Maumau, her great grandson, Carter Kauri Terata Tuione, her 10 siblings, Samiuela Fotu, Akosita Lepolo Vahe, Viliami Ongoivaha, Luisa, Silivenusi Finau, Semisi Tuivai, Sione, Sione Kofi, Siola’a, and Tevita Tuuta. She is survived by children Sela Tule Phillips, Heta Maliana Kakato (Valeli), Sione (Cleo Smith), and Taukatelata (Mary Jane Chiu). She was blessed with 12 grandchildren and, as of 2021, 20 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 12:30 pm, Friday, July 16, 2021 at the South Jordan 12th Ward Chapel, 3930 West 7885 South, West Jordan, UT were a family viewing will be held prior to services from 10:00 am to 12:00 Noon. Interment will be 2:15 pm, Friday at the Riverton City Cemetery, 1540 West 13200 South, Riverton, UT.
