Matthew Robert Hambleton's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts & sorrow we announce the passing of Matthew Robert Hambleton on
April 12th 2023. Matthew was born on September 8, 1972 in Downey California to Bill
Hambleton & Patricia Hambleton.
After Matthew graduated from Bonneville High School in 1990, he went on to college at Weber
State University, graduating with an associate of science. He also holds a nursing degree from
Regent University and an Associate of Fire Science from UVU.
Matthew began his 27 year firefighter career with Washington Terrace as a volunteer firefighter,
and his full time career with Ogden Fire Department in 1994. In August 1996, Matt became a
firefighter for Salt Lake County Fire/Unified Fire Authority. Two years later Matt was promoted to
paramedic, and in 2006 was promoted to Captain. Matt was a founding member of the Heavy
Rescue program and the longest serving member with over 20 years of service. Matt also
became a member of FEMA’s Urban Search & Rescue 2001 and was deployed to the World
Trade Center after 9/11/2001, Logan Canal break 2009, Hurricane Harvey 2017, Hurricane
Laura 2020, Oregon Wildfires 2020. Matthew committed his whole adult life to the service of
others in need. He impacted so many lives for the better and was so passionate about his work.
He often said “it was an honor to serve”.
Matthew will be forever missed and is survived by his wife of 25 years Monica and their children
Abrielle and Noah Hambleton. His parents Bill and Patricia Hambleton, Steve and Mary
Madson. He was a brother to William & Stacy Hambleton, James & Sara Porter, Matthew
Madson & Ryan Shurtz. Nieces and Nephews, Reagan Hambleton, Hudson, Khyber, Knoxley
Porter, Finley Madson.
Matthew loved to hike and be in nature. He often traveled with his wife and family members in
their trailer to national parks. He was a true adventurer climbing cliffs, mountaineering to Mount
Shuksan in the northern cascades. Never afraid of heights and truly at home high on the cliffs.
He was the life of the party and could make anyone laugh. His quick wit and comebacks will be
missed. We will hold our memories of him close to our hearts. Matt was a wonderful husband,
father and friend, we will miss him forever.
