Maxene Steimle Underwood's Obituary
Maxene Steimle Underwood, a long-time resident of Provo, Utah and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints passed away unexpectedly in her apartment on Thursday, July 29, 2021. Maxene was the daughter of Maxwell Steimle and Mildred Graetz Fernelius Steimle and was born on July 31, 1950, in Ogden, Utah. She grew up in San Diego, California and graduated from Mount Miguel High School in Spring Valley, California in 1968. Maxene served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Minneapolis, Minnesota Mission from September 1971 to March 1973.
She later married Charles Underwood on December 16, 1978, in San Diego and brought Joshua Underwood into the world on September 1st, 1979.
She moved to Provo, Utah in 1984 and lived there since. She attended Brigham Young University and then Utah Valley University studying botany and biology as she loved plants and gardening and making things grow. She later worked for Stouffers Frozen Foods and retired after 12 years.
She is predeceased by her parents and her brothers Robert Steimle, Jerry Fernelius, and Dale Fernelius. She is survived by her son Joshua Underwood and siblings, Peter Fernelius of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, Esther Frisch of Everett Washington, Jim Fernelius of Las Vegas, Nevada, Bonnie Bigler of Richfield, Utah and many nieces and nephews. She loved animals and was very caring for her cats and geckos. She loved to spend time with friends and family and had a great love for reading. She shared that love by sending books to her nieces and nephews for Christmas.
