Maxine Armstrong
1927-2016
Maxine Armstrong, a loving wife, mother and friend passed away peacefully in her sleep on Jan. 3, 2017 at the age of 89.
She was born on June 22, 1927 to Alverta Adella and Walter Heber Bowler in Providence, Utah. She was the younger of twin daughters. Maxine and Marjean were the best of friends their whole life. She was raised in Shelley, Idaho where she attended and graduated from school. Soon after her high school graduation she moved to Salt Lake City, Utah where she met Ira Floyd Armstrong who was fresh out of the Marines after serving in WWII. They dated, got engaged and married within 2 months of meeting. On Nov. 27, 1946 Ira and Maxine were married in the Idaho Falls Temple in a double wedding ceremony with her twin sister Marjean.
For over 30 years Maxine worked as an electronic assembler for Electro Controls. Over the years she served faithfully in her church with her favorite responsibility by far being that of doing extraction work, which she did for many years. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing, crafts, drawing, traveling and spending time with family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her twin sister, Marjean Hillman; her sister, Wanda Christensen. She is survived by her beloved husband, Ira; brothers, Wallace Bowler and Richard Bowler; son, Frank Armstrong (Jill); daughter Becky Bingham (Elton); 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren.
A viewing for family and friends who wish to remember and celebrate Maxine will be held at the LDS Jordan North 4th Ward building at 4270 So. Falcon St.(4145 W), West Valley City on Sunday, Jan 8, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and on Monday, Jan.9, 2017 from 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. The funeral will follow the viewing on Monday, Jan 9 at 11:00 a.m. at the same location. Interment will be in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
