Melda Lane Stancell Nickel
1932 - 2016
Melda Lane Stancell Nickel was born October 30, 1932 at home in Ariel Mill village in Easley, SC. She was the fourth of six children. She had many wonderful memories of her early years, having been part of a very loving, close family.
Melda married Oliver Nickel in the Salt Lake Temple May 14, 1954. They had 3 sons and were finally successful in getting their daughter...thank goodness. Her life was devoted to her family and she never missed an opportunity to support their activities and accomplishments. She was active and held many positions in the LDS church. Melda loved to travel, attend concerts and plays, and was an avid U of U fan. She kept active in water aerobics, where she formed many memorable friendships.
Melda died of natural causes on October 26, 2016. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, 3 sisters, and her son Neal (Laura). She is survived by her husband Oliver, son Matthew (Coralee), son Michael (Christy), daughter Tami, 13 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and her brother Marlee (Irma).
Melda will be remembered at a viewing on November 1, 2016 at 9:30 a.m., followed by services at 11 a.m., at the Bennion Utah West Stake Center 3045 W. Bernina Dr., Taylorsville, Utah. Interment to follow at Elysian Burial Gardens 1075 E. 4580 South, SLC, Utah.
