Melvin Cottam Fish
June 18, 1933 ~ January 26, 2019
Passed away peacefully surrounded by his family after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. He is survived by his wife Gwena, the love of his life who he was married to for more than 60 years, his ten children, Ramona, Sherry (David), Melvin J. (Pauline), Leonard (Cassie), Harold (Amy), Wes, Rachel (Brandon), Jenny (Rob), Wendy (Omar) and Aaron (Kati), 51 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren.
He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and dear friend. He was greatly loved as a teacher at East High in Salt Lake City, Utah. He also taught Math at BYU. He was a scoutmaster for 7 years and after much work became a beloved counselor.
He was born in Pioche, Nevada and raised in Toquerville, Utah. He served his country in the Army stationed in Germany during the Korean War. Then he served for 3 years as the first missionary in Taiwan for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Dad enjoyed learning new things his whole life. He earned his Bachelor degree at BYU, Master's degree at LSU, and his Doctorate at George Wythe University. We will miss his faith promoting stories, fun sense of humor, his laugh and most of all how kind he was to everyone. He will be missed but never forgotten!
Services will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at the LDS Chapel located at 14650 S. 3200 W. Bluffdale, UT 84065. The viewing will be from 9:00-10:45am, and the funeral following at 11:00am. Interment, Bluffdale Cemetery, Utah.
