Merrill Clarence Fisher
1938 - 2018
Merrill Clarence Fisher passed away quietly on the afternoon of March 13, 2018 in Cedar Hills Utah. With his beloved wife (Linda) of 53 years by his side. He was born on July 15, 1938 at the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City Utah to Clarence Merrill Fisher and Elnora Atkinson.
Merrill met Kathryn Linda Lyon of Hayward California on a blind date in CA. They were married in the Oakland California LDS Temple on June 12, 1965.
While serving in the Army, and newly married, the Fishers moved to Stockton California where Merrill was stationed in the Stockton Army Depot.
After the Army, Merrill and Linda moved to Pleasanton California. Merrill’s great talents included sports, and he was able to land a management position at the new indoor tennis facility in Pleasanton called Tennis Town, where he worked and taught for several years.
Coaching tennis on a collegiate level, Merrill was also well respected on the staff of the Brigham Young University Tennis Team, and trained, toured and coached them for several years.
One of Merrill’s greatest blessings in his life was as Bishop in the Pleasanton California First Ward in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served for over five years and loved, helped and served many grateful youth and members of the congregation. He was loved and loved others unselfishly and left a wonderful legacy upon the bay area.
While in California, Merrill and Linda adopted two children; Richard, and Jennifer Sue Fisher Bartlett. Jenny passed away on April 6, 2017 in Reno Nevada.
Merrill’s love for his family and friends will be missed, and his testimony of the life of Jesus Christ and in his atonement stand and a pillar of what his life’s work contained in great measure. He is survived by his spouse Kathryn “Linda” Fisher, his son Richard, Grandkids, Emery and Isaac and many family and friends.
Due to the fall and broken hip his dear wife Linda sustained this week, memorial services are postponed until she is able to attend.
Interment will be at the Holladay Memorial Park 11:00 am, Tuesday, March 20, 2018.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Merrill Fisher donation account at Zions Bank.
