Michael Vern Bates
1977 -- 2018
Michael Vern Bates, age 41, passed away on 26 December 2018 at his home in South Jordan, Utah from complications to diabetes. He was born on 29 April 1977 in Richland, WA.
Michael spent most of his growing up years in WA and UT. He was a smart, happy little boy. His grandpa used to refer to him as “The Little Professor”. He had a very kind and compassionate heart and was truly the peacemaker in the family.
He loved to play soccer as a young boy and played through his high school years. When he became a father, one of his favorite things to do was teach his son, Jared, how to play the game. He was Jared’s #1 fan.
He served a mission in El Salvador for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He learned to love the people of El Salvador and their culture.
For his education he received an Associate’s degree in computer science and was later employed at Microsoft, Texas Instruments, Caliber Collision, and most recently at Guardian Flight (Air-Med) as their IT specialist.
He married Maria Grice in the Dallas Texas Temple. They later divorced. The have one son, Jared.
He is survived by his former wife, Maria and son, Jared; his mother, Chris Haws (Nathan); father, Vern Bates (Carolyn); a brother, Ben Bates (Lynette) and their children Kyra, Aiden and Ryder; a sister, Michelle Fox and her children, Mariah and Coltin.
Funeral services will held 11:00 am, Monday, December 31, 2018 in the Heritage 2nd Ward chapel located at 7645 South 3200 West in West Jordan, UT. There will be a visitation from 9:45 to 10:45 am prior to services .
Burial will be at the Logan City Cemetery with graveside services at 03:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, to help with funeral expenses, donations will be accepted at Chase Bank. An account has been set up in Michael’s name.
