Mike was not only an amazing man he was also an amazing supervisor. There were so many times that Mike didn't agree with what upper management was making him do none the less he did it, and as much as he hated to have to come down on a rep or repremand someone whether he believed it was deserved or not you still got a Mike bear hug. I can think of so many times when mike would just sit at his desk with a group of people around him telling us his silly jokes trying to make sure that he could start each of us off with a good day by hearing a Mike joke or many of the hundreds of Scruffy stories. I know that next to his wife Mike's best friend was Scruffy. Mike taught me a lot over my 15 years at UPS but the thing that stands out the most to me is that no matter how horible upper management treated Mike or any of his employees he would remind us to just take it with a grain of salt and to always remember no matter what they said to or about you that you were a much better person and employee so to try to not let it get to you! Mike thank you for that because you taught me that no matter what upper management did or said that was not what defined me! Being the best person and doing the best I could was what defined me, thank u for that Mike (Mikey) Larsen. I am blessed to have known you and blessed for the time I had you as a supervisor and for the time I didn't because no matter what you always cared and you always let me know it! Thanks for be such a great inspiration, supervisor, leader and friend! May you be at peace in the loving arms of your family and know that you will always be missed by your family and friends still here on Earth! You made an impact on every persons life that you came across! May your family and friends take solace in know what a beloved man you were and that you will be miss by all who knew you whether it was for years or just long enough to hear a Mike joke. God be with your family and friends as they battle thru not having you here in your earthly body, and may God wrap his arms around each and everyone of them with a big Mike hug! Until we meet again Mr. Larsen rest in peace even though you are gone you will never be forgotten!!!!
Oh, man. I don't even know where to start! I met Mike back in 1995. At work. I was new and scared, he gave me one of the best hugs of my life and told me a silly joke to calm me down, then assured me that I'd do fine. Over the years and the various departments, he'd check on me and give me advice. And he was always there with those great hugs.
Fast forward to 2012 when I was going through a very hard time in my life personally. Mike was again there and reassured me that I knew in my heart which decision would be best for me and my family. When I let him know that I'd decided to leave and move out of state in order to let my husband fulfill his dreams; he started in with his jokes again. Before long, we were both laughing and crying. And he gave me one last great big bear hug. Mike was a great example of human kindness to me and who knows how many others over the course of the years.
Goodbye Mike, thanks for all the kind words, encouragement, jokes, hugs and sometimes when I needed it, a good kick in the pants! You will always have a place in my heart. Now go start giving out your hugs in Heaven!
Mike was my very first supervisor at UPS. He always took the time to ask how my kids were doing, their grades in school, and even offered to let my daughter have a chicken since she was obsessed with them. More than once he asked if my family had enough food on the table since he knew I raised my kids alone. Not only that but he was hilarious. What a huge loss for his family. He was one of a kind and genuinely cared about people.
